Hello Alec,

Having a professional domain, or a top level domain, is a really good idea for a number or reasons. If you buy a domain, you will be the only person with that domain you purchase, allowing you the ease of sharing your domain with others so they can see the work you have done. Here are additional benefits:

1. A shorter domain makes it easier for people to remember, spell and type into the address bar versus a subdomain that is much longer.
2. If you purchase a domain name from Yola we provide you with Domain Name Management so can assist you with email setup attached to your domain such as info@mysite.com.
3. A top level domain appears more professional than a subdomain.
4. Some research suggests that having your own top level domain is better for search engine optimization.

I hope this will help you as you make your decision. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

For a step by step video on how to publish your site to a professional and standard domain, please see: Publishing to professional and standard domain

Cheers!

Hi Alex,

If you purchase a domain name for a year then it will be accessible when people type it into the address bar or click on a link. It will take some time for it to be visible in the search engines and you can find more on this link: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/.... We have a range of SEO tutorials available for you to read through.

You'll need to use the templates that we have available on Yola. These links may be useful to you:

2. Tutorial on personalizing your style: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/... (more on this page: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/....

I hope that helps!

Hello Alec

I'm a bit unclear here. Hopefully, you can straighten me out :)

Are you trying to do a search on Google for your site and what you're seeing is the link to Photobucket? The reason why this is happening is because your stuff with Photobucket has already been indexed.

Your website on the other hand is a separate thing from Photobucket and it still needs to be indexed.

As soon as your site is published it is live on the internet. However, please note that it takes time for newly published sites to be indexed by the search engines. This can take anywhere from a few days to a few months and unfortunately, it is out of our control. It is premature to expect your site to come up in a web search immediately after you publish it. Until your site is indexed, people will need to access it by clicking on a link to your site that you provide, or by typing your URL directly into the address bar of their browser.

For more information on promoting your newly published site, please see: Promoting your website.

Another great way to promote your site and any updates you make is through Twitter. If you have a Twitter account, you can easily Tweet any changes or updates you make when you publish! For more information on this please see this thread in our forum: Twitter Button - Tweet your new site or your latest changes!.

If you don't have a Twitter account and would like to get one to make use of this promotion tool, please go to Twitter.com and sign up for a Free account!

Yola has developed a short series of SEO Tutorials which will take you through the process of building, maintaining and promoting your website with search engine optimization in mind, here is a link: SEO Tutorials. You may also be interested in watching a webinar at Yola.tv, Introduction to SEO.

I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if it does not.
