Is it a good idea to use free articles written by others for use on your website ? I'll be using a mix of my own articles as well . It's just too much work trying to come up with original content for my sites . Anyone using free articles to populate their website's content post your views also .
Can free articles help built your sites traffic ? Comments on the pros and cons of using free articles greatly appreciated .

Hi Bob,

That is a great question!

Using free articles on your site that you find in article directories won't generally bring you much search engine traffic because the content will have all ready been indexed; the search engine won't index it multiple times on all the various websites that have used it. The original article, or the first time it was published to the Internet, will generally be the one that comes up in the search results.

But, that's not to say that you can't give the page the article is on in your site a unique title, description and keywords tag and maybe a bit more content (outside the general area of the article) to make it a bit more unique.

The reason that these articles are useful has a lot to do with your visitor's site experience. The more information you can give your site visitor to keep them on your site and make them want to come back is a great thing. Finding articles that speak to your site concept/topic and providing them for your site visitor can only increase their experience.

If you are adding original content of your own and supplementing with some free articles; that sounds like a good balance.

Hope this helps!

It is very good as long as it relates to your site....Search engines value useful information for your visitors. As long as you follow the conditions laid out by the person that wrote the article concerning linking back to them and giving them credit it is a great resource to use.

Here is an example of how I use an article at the lower part of a product category page...http://kanthaidecor.com/farmed-teak-s...

As Emmy is saying it may not help your Page Rank but a pattern of useful relevant information is great for your bounce rate.
