I have re-positioned my items in the ' on-line store' part of my website several times and saved this. When I preview the site or just look at it out of the preview feature (as if I am ready to make amendments) the new order shows up but when I log out and takea look at the website afterwards (also having refreshed the page just in case) the new order has not transferred onto the website. What can I do to have the new positons showing? Thanks.

Hello Marc,

I'm not clear on what you mean by the order. Are these the order of items displayed on a specific page? Generally items within a category are displayed in the same order that they are in the Store catalogue database. If you can do a screen capture or give your website address then we can look at what you are wanting to do.

Hi Gop,

Thanks for getting back. I can't do a screen capture unfortunately. My website is www.itschildsplay.eu. As an example, on the party bags page I am trying to place the first three items as the paper bags which they are not currently (plus everything else needs to be in the order I placed them in, in the store catalogue - after moving them around using the drag and paste feature). I hope that makes a little more sense. Marc

Hello Marc,

The store doesn't allow for a drag and drop re-positioning function in the design mode, this is because the Store actually rebuilds the page each time it is accessed rather than creating a single display file. This allows for addition , deletion or modifying any product at any time within the Store .

If you can add the category "party-bag" to the bags and other categories to appropriate items then this will allow you to then place the categories in your preferred order. If you have already added these all to the same category then you can add a sub-category which would be specific to the appropriate articles. This will allow you to definitively place each group as you wish.

If you are finding this a bit confusing then you can send me a copy of your inventory and I can play with this, you can direct me as to exactly the way you would like to display and I can modify a copy of the file which you could then upload into your online store. Let me know if you wish to do this?

Hi Gop, It's a bit puzzling! If you go to 'edit website' then 'online store' then 'advanced options' then 'catalog' then 'categories' then 'party bags' then 'category products' - the previously added list of items will appear with 'Drag and drop items to sort' headed at the top of the list of items on the right hand side. After making these changes once they have been re-positioned, you can click on the 'save' box and just underneath 'save' you can click on 'Preview Category' which then opens up showing the new 'line up' of items. In this preview mode everything is as it should be (as the newly made changes have been correctly updated) but it is when you look at the actual website where the items are all jumbled up and not as previewed. Are you sure that this facility is not active as the re-ordering that I'm doing is obviously being saved at some point, as shown on the preview button?! I can have a go using sub categories but don't understand how doing this will make any difference if there is actually no option to alter the order of items - in other words, won't I just be replicating the same problem (not being able to hange the order) but just in a different category? Hope this makes sense. Thanks very much. If after your next reply I really can't work it out, then I will have to send you the order I wish the items to be in! Marc

I hear what you are saying. The sort function can be one of the six options and the original default is the order that they were added in. If you select sorting on price for example, the order changes but you can get back to the original by selecting on the blank part of the sort facility.

Ani issue with this is that your customers are not likely to recognmise the default blank as a sorting criteria and if they select any other sort they will lose your intended order. You could take out the sort facility completely so that customers won't have this option. A more customer friendly way is to re-organise your categories so that the bags are in a unique category or sub-category to the other items on the current page. You could also sub-classify the other items if you wish.

To display the items all on the same page then you can drag three occurrences of the Store onto the page and select the appropriate category for each occurrence. If then the default headings are too distracting these can be removed. They could be displayed as a single page and minimally segregated from each other without a top heavy appearance of category headings and the so-called breadcrumb trail
