I want to register my own domain name in South Africa for a website that that is hosted by Yola. http://www.benoni-radio-flyers.syntha.... I want to register the site as www.benoniradioflyers.co.za through a local ISP in Pretoria South Africa called MWeb.

In the forms for the domain registration they are asking to what IP Addres they should point the A-Record to. Please can one of the Yola support person provide me with the correct details. I would like to complete my Domain Registration. Thank you

Hi Arno,

We have a tutorial outlining the steps to configuring your domain, giving two popular domain name registrars as examples: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/publish...

There are also instructions on how to use ZoneEdit if your domain name registrar does not provide you with domain name management. However, most domain name registrars can assist you with an A record, in which case you would not need to use a third party service like ZoneEdit.

These are general instructions on how to configure your domain to point to Yola. If you require specific help with the interface of your domain name registrar, please contact them for support.

How to configure a domain name you already own:

1. Log in to your chosen domain registrar.
2. Go to the DNS Management page.
3. Set up an A Record.
4. The IP address of your record must point to: "208.75.208.172"

Please note that it can take up to 48 hours (although usually less) for these changes to take effect and you need to contact your domain registrar if you need help in that regard. Feel free to forward any instructions you receive from them to us so that we can advise you further.

Once you have configured your DNS settings, click the yellow "Publish My Site" button in Yola, then click on "I already own a domain name". Fill in your domain name and follow the prompts to publish your site.

Once your site is published to your domain the hard part is over and you will be able to edit your site and then update it with a single click.

Please let us know if we can help you with anything else.

Thank Ruth,

Does this mean I have to "Un-publish" my site first, then "Re-Publish" my site using the new domain name I am registering?

You will need to set up your A-Record first and then publish your site. If you site is already published, then unpublish and republish using your new domain name.

Thanks.

By the way, since Synthasite is hosting my site for free, how will I know that it will always be there and not removed after some time? There is no contract or anything. I am worried that for some odd reason Synthasite may decide to stop the FREE hosting service and my site will go down..

Hi Arno,

Yola makes money through premium services such as domain sales and through affiliate relationships (referral fees when someone signs up for a service like PayPal or Genbook). We have also just received 20 million USD of Venture Capital to help us grow our business. So we plan to be around for a long time to come! See: http://blog.yola.com/2009/02/17/synth...

Site building and hosting with Yola are completely free of charge. There are no subscription fees and we do not put any pop up ads on your site. We even give you a free subdomain name to publish your site to. You can also purchase a custom domain (dot com) from us for 19.95 USD per year. However, this is entirely optional. So your website can either be completely free or it will cost you 19.95 USD, depending on which option you select.

We also offer free 24/7 email support, so if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If I set up an A record to point to the Yola IP address indicated above, is there anything I can do to be able to have email addresses @mydomain.com ?

A forwarding mail address would be quite sufficient.

Hi Pablo - pointing your domain to Yola with an A Record should not affect your email addresses. This is a separate issue and you would need to contact your domain registrar to get your email setup.
