OK, NOW I AM PISSED!!!! I AM ABOUT TO SCRAP SYNTHASITE AND TELL MY CLIENT TO START A MASS CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE USE OF THIS SITE. Now that is said, my site is not being indexed by google because of an error in the robot.txt file. I does not reconize the sitemap url syntax. I have now spent three days reading and studying and trying every possibility. I have to change the robot.txt file and synthasite does not offer a place anywhere that I can do this. How can i change the problem with the site map url in the robot.txt file.

Thanks for sharing your URL as that allows us to look at your sitemap and robots.txt file. I have alerted our developers to this and they will try to investigate why you are having this problem. In the meantime if you could email a copy of the exact error message you received from Google to support@synthasite.com, that would be helpful. Mark it "attention Monique" and we will take it from there.

Thanks for sending this information through. It appears that Google has a problem with the sitemap URL in the robots.txt files of our sites. This is a minor error and will not interfere with Google's ability to index your site, or with your search engine ranking. However, now that we are aware of the problem we will correct it from our side.

I can't speak for either Google or MSN. I can only tell you that if you do the things search engines like they will index your site in time. If you would like you can tell us what you have done so far to promote your site so far and hopefully some of the people who have had success with the search engines can share some tips with you.

Hi Graham,

Did the message from Google include something about your URL being blocked because of a robots.txt file? You can ignore this. Google has simply tried to index the preview URL of one of your pages (The URL that you have given is the preview URL and not your published site address). A preview URL is what you see in your browser window when you open your site in the SynthaSite sitebuilder and then preview it. SynthaSite prevents Google from crawling these URLs as Google should not index unpublished sites.

This message simply serves to indicate that everything is working correctly. This will not interfere with your search engine ranking or Google Webmaster's ability to return data about your site.

Google makes an attempt approximately every 5 days, so you simply need to wait for the Google to come around again and everything should be fine.

Feel free to post the whole error message from Google if you would like to make sure.

Google is without a doubt the hardest search engine to get indexed in. It is also the hardest to get inbound links in too. If I go to msn or yahoo and search for my company name I get way more results then on google. This is the reason google is the most popular search engine because it returns the most relevant results for every search.

Need a tiler ? CMD Ceramics tiling contractor provide wall and floor tiling services in London and Surrey www.cmdceramics.com for kitchen and bathroom tilers.

That is an excellent point. We take the power of a Google search for granted, but we would quickly stop using them if our searches returned irrelevant results. The flip side of that is if you are a web publisher, you have some serious competition and you have to prove your worth and earn your place. Not many people are willing to persevere with this and they become frustrated when they are not indexed right away. Glad to see that you are still here and still talking about SEO, cmd ceramics!

I have to say how impressed I am with the responses from other website owners and from Synthasite themselves. I am totally amazed how quickly I built a site and how quickly I got it on the front page of google in its related subject, albeit indirectly. However I am certain that this is going to be a good learning curve to prepare me for a couple of other sites I have in mind.

Although my sites purpose it to generate work for me in my local area, there are a lot of useful links on my site that anybody can access and find interesting in the related subject.

Feel free to browse

As for the robots.txt file problem, all has been resolved and I have nice green ticks from google now without the errors.
