Scam Artists

Hello to all on SynthaSite

I wanted to give a shout out to everyone because I know that so many here have little or no business experience but have bravely decided to give e commerce a shot. I have a few sites where I have my products posted along with my main site hosted by SynthtaSite.
Recently and this is nothing new I have had to deal with a large number of people that are scam artists. There seems to be more every day and I have to admit they are getting more sophisticated. I may be fairly new to e commerce myself but I also have 25 years of business experience as a purchasing manager for a few different manufacturing companies. Here are a few things to watch for and I have been having to deal with as of late.

1.If you have your payment/ shipping terms or policies clearly listed and someone wants you to deviate from that don’t do it.
2.A company check means nothing I have a few fake ones that were sent to me.
a. Do not return a fake check it has your name or company name on it...If they insist tell them they can pick it up at the local police department.
3.Cashiers checks/money orders can be faked and can come back to haunt you. Your bank WILL come after you if it proves to be a fake later. (Banks get fooled too)
4. If a customer truly wants to pay by check inform them nicely that PayPal (and others)offer that service and will let them do a bank check...Many customers love this as we never see their banking information.

It is amazing how agressive these people are now. The fake checks sent to me were from people that I told I would not accept a check.... but then they sent checks anyway. Most common scam now is the check will be for more than the order and they want to arrange a pick up with their own shipper.
They will ask you to send a check to the shipper and they will come to pick up their order. What happens is that they cancel the order ...Now they have a real check from you to cash and have your banking info including your signature to make a fake check from.

Basically stick to your terms and insist nicely that your customers accept your terms or you can’t do business with them....Try going to Wal-Mart and dictate payment and shipping terms other than the terms they have listed as acceptable....Honorable people have no problem with honorable terms.
