Here again.....I will soon be starting on setting up my online store and uploading literally thousands of trading cards and would like to have a "search" box option in my store so that a person can type the name of a card they might be looking for and searching that way rather than scrolling through dozens of pages of my catalogue.

Can anyone suggest a good and easy to use SEARCH box widget or something I can use please? I tried Google and duh me, yup it just searched "Google" ....lol. I guess too, a free SEARCH box is going to come with ads aren't they :( If I can avoid them I'd prefer to as ads seem to mess up the overall appearance of the page.

Anyone know of a good and easy to use SEARCH box for my store? Would be very appreciative.

Cheers everyone

Hi Indi,

The search options we suggest on Yola are Google and you can find those details on these links:

Perhaps other people in the Yola community would be able to give you some suggestions.

yea, google search sucks...

you can't customize splicing options for starters and it only search pages indexed in google. Are you willing to have your site not fully searchable? It's almost inevitable that every page in your site will NOT be indexed in google and therefore those pages won't be included in google's site search.

Try http://sitelevel.com... with sitelevel, you can customize splicing options like on the walmart website for example with the drop down arrow and it searches only that portion of the site selected or the entire site! And you can have your site crawled whenever you want for new content and it only takes a few minutes for new content to be searchable.

So I do NOT suggest google site search rather try sitelevel or another site search service.

Thanks Tyler will have a look at AskDaveTaylor.

Donald, I think now I need a "Glossary" of terms to understand "splicing options" "indexed" and "crawling" ....lol.

No I don't want my entire site searchable, they can just go where they want by navigating the menu buttons, I only want my store/catalogue searchable because of the qty of cards I will have listed, I know i'd be totally frustrated if I had to scroll through dozens of pages and so the obvious quick way is a search box.

I will definately go check out 'sitelevel' as you have suggested.

Thanks everyone for your continuing help.

Ok so i'm back.....oh i bet i can keep Dave Taylor busy.....lol.

I do like the look of the Sitelevel, however, it asks for the URL to my site which of course makes sense, but, since I am still building my site and it is not published I can't exactly go and put the url in as

http://sitebuilder.yola.com************ blah blah now can I ????

So does this mean I can't get the search box and work it into my site while i'm building it :(

I wanted everything in place ready for when I do eventually get my site published.

Thanks again.

That's correct Indi. Your site will need to be published to have the sitelevel search working. If you don't want your site to be viewable yet, you could add a Password Protection feature on it.

Here's more info: Adding Password Protection

I hope that helps!

Thanks Sanja, just read you reply on my other thread.....I'll do more work on my site then buy a domain when i'm close to being finished but use the protection option until i'm 100% happy to unveil my site...

Thank you :)
