I have followed the yola tutorial on SEO and although google picks up my site if I type the name of my site into their search box, none of my keywords bring my site up when searching on them. Thing is, there is someone in the same city as me doing they same type of business, they advertise nowhere, have no incoming or outgoing links and yet they are number 1 business to come up on a google search for keywords I have listed. Their site is powered by vista, I don't understand?!?!

Hi Claire,

It can definitely take some time to begin listing for specific keyword searches. Here is a link to one of our knowledge books on this topic: Getting listed for keyword searches.

Have you had a chance to look at our tutorial on promoting your website? If not, this will give you some suggestions: Promoting Your Site.

If there is another company doing specifically what you do in your local area, I would suggest that you submit your site to Google's Local Business Center, this would be #3 in the above tutorial. This will add your website to the local listings at the very top of the search results.

Hope this helps!

Emmy

you need to submit a sitemap... I'm not in webmasters at the moment, so instead of explaining step by step, find the sitemap section... click on the link to the sitemap section and find the part that says, submit sitemap. In the sitemap section enter your sitemap url which is... http://muchlovedpets.org/sitemap.xml ... if http://muchlovedpets.org_________ shows, then all you need to type in the box would be sitemap.xml.

Hope this helps.

that's actually pretty good. Google indexed 100% of your pages, 8 out of 8 which is unusual. Most of the time, it tends to leave pages out. I only have 228 pages indexed, but I have a lot more pages than that.

as far as searching by keyword and finding your site, it may or may never happen.... I still have hard times finding my site on the first 10 pages of google, but I get found 2 to 15 times a day from search engines raning from google, to ask, bing, and yahoo. Just because YOU can't find your site from a particular keyword doesn't mean someone else can't. Also, "keywords" aren't the only way to find a site in search results. I often get found from people searching entire sentences. Today, I was found from a 12 word search in google.
