Server Not Found Error

I keep getting a server not found error when I enter my web address or click a link to my page. I have cleared my cache and cookies, but I still cannot get to my page. I have been able to get to it before, but it seems to constantly be up then down. How do I correct this, and are my customers having the same experience?

Give me your website address and I'll try and see if we can fix this.

Ok. Well first, the good news.. I can reach all pages of your site (and it looks good).
Now, silly question, but what exactly are you entering as your address, and what is the exact text you have on the link you are trying to use?

It seems as though I just typed a whole response but did not submit... I'm entering thefreshplate.com and I've tried www.thefreshplate.com. The link was generated by Facebook when I entered the text of thefreshplate.com, so it's worded the same. I have been able to view it on two home computers and both mine and my husbands phones, but we cannot see it now on either safari, Firefox or Internet explorer, and some customers have said they can see it and others say it won't load

Now I've clicked on the link that was generated in my comment and I'm able to access it... It's so confusing, it's there one minute and gone the next!

I just re-tried it from this Forum and got it immediately, and also from your own post with www.
Sorry, but it looks like a job for one of the Yola pros, or maybe a more knowledgeable member (where are you, Gop?)
Stand by, and I'm sure one of them will sort it.

Hello Rebecca,

It sounds as if this is an intermittent slowdown somewhere between you and the original server of the site; so guessing it's a geographical issue. Philip is in Western Australia and I am in Thailand and both of us are seeing your site at this time without holdups.

What may help is to run a traceroute to your site and you may see a hold-up somewhere along the route. If this is the case then you may be able to identify the server enroute that is causing the problem and then do a Google search to see if there is anything gazetted by the organisation that's relaying your site along the path. This similar issue was noticed several weeks ago and it was a server issue with one of the big US systems. It will be fixed if this is the case, by them. Probably nothing that Yola can manipulate unless it's one of their own server systems(?)

Well, I have run the traceroute, and get an error that states "unable to resolve target system name" and I tried pinging the site and received the error "ping request could not find host"

Hi Rebecca,

It's looking close to home along the routing if it can't resolve the name. Are you seeing any servers along the trace? Your ISP may be your best advice on this (?). Can you access your sitebuilder? (just for data collection)

Is it possible to switch ISP's if they can't give you an answer? (May not help if it's one of the big players that's affected)

PS: worth clearing your browser(s) cache, just in case, also.

I've cleared cache and cookies numerous times, and it seemed to work the very first time I did it a few days ago. I have no way to change isp's , but I feel it important to mention I was able to run a traceroute on other sites, just not my own.

You've done it all Rebecca.

I think then your ISP is your best chance for help on this. Give their CS a call and ask them for a solution.
