A fellow Yolan encouraged me to start the 'Adsense tips and advice' sharing thread so here i am ... Whether you are just getting started with Adsense or you have been involved for a while - feel free to jump in at any time and share what you have learnt.

The aim of this thread is to help others bring out the best in their Adsense performance - may it be optimization - SEO - simple strategies or personal experience - we want to hear it all.

We are going to start by asking a few questions in regard to the topic - where we will be able to get a better structure which we will then follow. We also hope to gradually add to the thread, eventually serving as a 'local' Yola based Adsense advice central - helping newbies and beginners.

Feel free to join in the discussion - ask and tell as you please !

Hey, Yolans, let's get going and share how everyone makes money. Rynaldo has posted this in another thread:
"The possibility to make a good amount of money with Adsense is possible. Despite the fact that most of us make use of subdomains - this doesn't limit the potential in my personal opinion. I strongly believe it's all about the amount and effort you put in !"

He suggests looking at: http://www.webrevenue.org/the-adsense... -

He recommends: inspiration - strategy and hard work !

He also advises: Keep it simple - strategies - ad placement - marketing and SEO - good content

He believes: in one simple thing - the bigger the site - the better the revenue

He adds: you will need to add the good content, SEO and other things.

Hey Keara :)

I am back and ready to get posting ! I think we should do something to get tis thread 'out there' if you know what i mean lol ... So answering your question above... personally i would consider myself falling into the 'little bit more' category :) it may move up with some extra work, however, the error we are experiencing with Yola right now kind of places a hold on that. How long have you been on Yola and Adsense ? We need to get a gripping point - top to bottom ?

Some days I get as many as 1000 page impressions for Ads....As you know what you and I get for total page impressions is not nearly enough to make more than a few dollars here and there with our Ads

I'm impressed guys. I'm lucky if I get 50 hits in a day.
I average between 30 and 50 a day on TravelSA. It's my own fault though because I have neglected it for a long time and at 200+ pages, it is still not even quarter complete. I'll get back to it soon...

The max I ever got was 500 in one day and that was when forsite was featured by Yola way back when. Back then I made $100 the first month and $125 the second month and I was averaging between 350 - 450 hits a day. Thats about $3 to $4 a day.
I don't do Adsense anymore. Not worth it for me I'm afraid.

Not to bad though for a dead tree hugger John. Well done man ;-)

One of the things I did was add Google Custom Search as Lee did.I then added Adsesne to Custom Search and for me it has a much higher CTR....I am going to work on making a new commercial for my YouTube account and connect my Adsense to that also....YouTube is the #2 search engine on the planet.
I will add some of music to it also....Bought a new 16 track recorder so new tunes will soon be heard

You really think Adsense for search is better ? The way i understand - the given results from Adsense Search only gives you 3 ad units (top of the page) ? Am i right ?

I never really experimented with the search function due to adsense for content being my main revenue source, however, if search has a good ctr, i might as well try it!

Boomer, why do you say that doing AdSense is not worth it for you any more? Would it take any work from you to keep using it? (once you have it set up)

Boomer - You mentioned you do not put any effort into your website, which in my personal opinion i think is reason for your low CTR. Also, how well are you doing your marketing ? With that amount of hits compare to the CPC ration, you should earn a good few bucks a day. Here is a good tip :

If you really want to make a good deal of cash from Adsense - its better to not stand still and have one site only ! Make use of the 5 or so you have and take maximum advantage.

I am pretty sure with a little TLC, you will see a notable change Boomer - if however, you do not want your site anymore LOL - give it away to someone that would enjoy making a few extra dollars.

@ Keara & Rynaldo, (more @ Rynaldo)

Don't get me wrong, I put loads of effort into my websites. Too much in fact.
I've spent the last 5 months building a new non-Yola site because I need PHP and MySQL. I can't even show it off because I haven't done the home page yet.
For this one, and I know this is going to sound weird, I don't actually need any SEO.
It's an online "tool" I'm selling, and in this instance it will be marketed directly to prospective clients. OK, you know too much already ;-)

Last time I checked, I had 22 Yola sites. The biggest one of them is Travelsa.cc
It's a big website of which I have done 200 pages and have about 600 pages to go.
I've put it on hold briefly so that I can complete the above mentioned site.
You will only find one Adsense ad segment on the whole site and that is on the homepage. An ad for my new site will be replacing it soon though. Travelsa is a little broken at the moment and does not load all of the content because of the eWebCounter problem I mentioned on another thread. Just incase you wanted to check it out ;-)

I'm sure there are a lot of people making good money out of Adsense. For me it is just pocket money. I'm hoping for bigger things. Maybe I'll be paying Google to display my ads on other sites one day. Hey, who knows, maybe my ads will be appearing on your sites soon and you can make some money off it. OK... now I'm starting to contradict my above mentioned SEO statement.

Cheers!

P.S. You don't see Google ads on Yola do you? You do however see Yola ads on Google. Aim higher guys...

Boomer, thanks for your reply. Your new site sounds very interesting! I'd still like to know, though, why you removed the Google Ads from your SA travel site. If you were making even pocket change, and if there was no extra work for you once you'd put them in place -- why not leave them there and pick up a little extra cash? I have no experience with AdSense at all, and so perhaps my question is naive. Still, I'd love to understand your decision to remove AdSense from your pages, if you are willing to explain it.

Hi Keara,
I never actually had ads on TravelSA. The ads I was refering too were on forsite, and they are still there making "pocket change".

I just never wanted ads on TravelSA because I thought it would make the site look "cheap." Too "desperate", if you know what I mean. Just my opinion ;-)

John, you mentioned not long ago, I think, that your page-rank had greatly improved when you added a blog. I was wondering how often you feel you should add to the blog, and how long individual entries should be to achieve that kind of effect. I'm guessing that if a person adds one entry per week, that could make a difference? And that an entry of 3-4 sentences will have a minimal effect, if any. But I'm just guessing. Would love to have the benefit of your experience, if you are willing to share it.

My website is not-for-profit, but I'd like to have a few dollars returned as an "encouragement" to continue with it. I have wiggled my toes in Adsense, by just placing an ad (of Google's choosing) at the top and bottom of each page. Very occasionally, I get advised of a few cents revenue - a total of about $10 at present, which obviously I can't draw. But recently there has been no revenue at all. Is there a way to find which ads are creating the revenue (such as it is) and increasing their usage? Or is my method completely wrong?
