YOS Shipping Set up

We can't make the shipping section work on the online store and in the Yola Tutorial display its different to the shipping options that comes up when we try to add a shipping method. We want a flat rate of AUS$8.00 to apply to all orders, not a calulated weight rate. Why isn't the flat rate option working? We have had an order placed and no shipping applied to it. We need this fixed asap!

Hi Imperial Living

Have you added a weight to your products? This is the most common reason why a shipping price doesn't show at checkout - because the Online Store then thinks you are selling virtual or e-goods that do not need to be shipped. I know this is tricky if you set a flat rate, because it is then natural to expect the flat rate to always be applied, but you do still need to assign weights to your products.

If this doesn't solve the problem, please let us know.

When we applied weight like you said, it then put the price in at the calculated amount not the flat rate. I sent and email for further advice on Wednesday and still havent had a responce.

If shipping is the same on all items why bother showing it? Add it to the price of each item and say free shipping

Hi Imperial Living,

After you have correctly added the weight to each item then you can create an order shipping fee in the shipping section utilising the table facility.

May I ask if the so called flat rate is specific for a destination or is it the same shipping rate across the board? Depending on your answer I can give you the relative specifics for this.

The flat rate is the same across the board, we want it to be $8.00 per order.

Thanks for clarifying.

You need to setup a "User defined rate". You also need to define your shipping zones. For example if you are shipping exclusively in the US but this also includes the continental states, territories and military, but you may only intend to cover the contiguous states. You would not have allowed for Military and territories so these must not be included in your zones neither in this case should the rest of the world.

When you go into your User defined rates it's simply adding the $8.00 into the "per order rate" and set all other variables to zero. That should work.

Please ask if I have missed anything here. it was a poor example as I see that you are in Australia but the principles still stand.

Thats fine, thank you!
This might sound silly as you have explained how to do it brilliantly.. but where do we actually go to access the "user defined rate"? and does this still mean we need weight?

Hi IL,

You always need a weight even if the weight isn't used in the calculation. The presence of weight differentiates physical products ie a solid put it in your hand type product from a digital;virtual; electronic product such as an e-book or music. It's quite a clever trick that they have come across.

The user defined shipping rate setup can be found:

Online Store → Advanced Options → System Settings → Shipping → *New Shipping Method → 1. Select Shipping Region (if pre determined or Create a new Region) → 2. Select Flat Rate → 3. Set Shipping Rate { Amount: $8.00} → 4. Delivery Time (generally offered in info by your carrier (This is simply info for your customers → 5. name Shipping Method ( a name you add and is shown to your customers on checkout)

Done!

Okay. So we had already done that but that was when we had no weight on our products. Once we get the weights finished it should so the $8.00 per order correct?

Correct.
I may have given you the wrong slant in the phrase "correctly added the weight" I meant that it was correct to add a weight. This can be any number you like for this purpose, it just can't be null.

Apologies if I sent you on a major paper flicking to find the product weights accurately for your inventory. I'll be more careful of this in future.

Hello Leroy,

The first thing to do is to make sure each product has a weight even if the shipping price is independent of the weight. This is because the store associates weight with a physical product and a nul weight is classified as a digital or electronic product.

In your shipping methods then you would simply set up an algorithm that looks at the article price and if it's $3 then the shipping is calculated as $2 otherwise it's free or another condition as you mentioned 3 shipping charges.
