shopping cart

Is there an alternate shopping cart that will work with synthasite besides the paypal shopping cart? I just found out that unlike when people purchase on ebay and you get a notification letter of payment, you do not get notification letters from paypal for purchases from their shopping carts set up on websites. Good news is that people are buying from the site. Bad news is, I didnt know it for almost a week. You would have to check the paypal account randomly all day long to keep up on sales. Does zen cart work with synthasite?

I see a few posts on e-mal but havent seen any posts as to whether or not this works with synthasite. Has anyone used this, do we have a site for example anywhere? Just curious.

Hi,

Glad to hear that people are buying from your site!

Google Checkout is a checkout process that allows you to process orders and charge credit or debit cards for free. Google Checkout is not integrated into the Site Builder, but you can use it by utilizing the html widget. Here are some instructions that will help you set this up.

To get started please to go to Google Checkout http://checkout.google.com/sell/

You will need to follow through the process of setting up an account; if you all ready have an account with Google for other services such as Email, Analytics, AdSense or AdWords you will be able to use this account, although you will need to add various information to it such as Personal Contact Information, Public Contact Information and Product Type and Financial Information (this will require a valid credit card).

When you agree to Google's Terms of Service and the sign up is complete, you will be able to set up how you want to integrate Google Checkout with your site. You can easily set up Buy Now buttons which can be set up to sell multiple versions of a product. To create Buy Now buttons click on the Buy Now Buttons Link.

You will be able to set up a Basic Button with one option, or a Button With Options. You will then be able to give your item a name, description and price. Once you have completed your button click Create Button Code and you will get a block of code.

To add this button to your site:

1. Copy and paste the block of code that was created
2. Log into your Site Builder
3. Drag and drop an html widget onto your page where you want the button to appear
4. Paste in the code

Note: If you would like to put this button next to the picture of a product you can drag and drop a two column widget onto the page and drag and image widget onto one side and an html widget onto the other (putting the button code in the html widget).

You can create as many buttons as you would like; simply remove the product information from the fields, add new product information and click Create Button Code.

Click on the Settings Tab to specify a bank account where you would like the payments to go. There are other ways you can use Google Checkout on your website such as with a pre-integrated shopping cart. Please look around Google Checkout to see if there are other ways you would like to use it.

Here is a link to the Google Checkout Merchant Help Website http://checkout.google.com/support/se... where you will be able to find a variety of help topics.

I hope this is an alternative for you. I'm interested to see what others have to say about e-mall too.

Hi
I am trying to set up a shopping cart on my synthasite.
Having gone through the process of signing up and getting credit ratings lifted. I went through all the procedures to set up my cart . Feeling pretty smug at having sorted all tomy satisfaction I pasted the HTML in , only to
find out it just doesn't do what it says on the packet.
If customers want to cancel before signing in the are brought to an empty page and not bagk to my site. Also when I upload the page it shows the code and not the image.
Don't think this is a synthasite problem but wondered if anyone using shopping carts could help out here.
I have phoned paypal 3 times and they keep telling me a technical problem. Not a lot of help.
Took a a look at check out google . They don't offer such a wide range of services as paypal but it dose look less confusing!

if its showing the code a < or a > may be missing
Is all the code held at synthasite or at paypal?

if you like you could post the code and i will see if i can fix the redirection to a blank page you mention.

add this before the code
<!--
and this after the code

"If customers want to cancel before signing in they are brought to an empty page and not back to my site.Where it says press return my email address is shown and not my website url.
I have gone through all the obvious procedures to change this with no success"
Here is the code I am pasting in

Hello Syra,
Are you putting the code into and html widget or a text widget? Make sure you put any html code into an html widget, it is a blue circle on the Content Sidebar. Can you give me a link to the page you have your paypal store on so I can check it out. Thanks!

Hello Syra,
I was just reading a previous post where you said the code appeared and not the image, just wanted to cover all our bases. Do you still see just the code appearing? I looked at you store page and it looks good. I went through the process to purchase and do see that it says to return back to your email address and not your url. This has to be something you set in your account. I would suggest taking a screen shot of exactly what you want to be changed and sending a support request to PayPal. They should be able to direct you to the proper area to change this.

Hi Emmy
Thanks . I'm relly pleased with it too.
The templates made everything very user friendly.
Yes I agree with you . I have been at it all day going through my account with a fine tooth comb. I'm sure there is something obvious that I am missing.
Paypal are not as immediate in their response as you guys.

Well, I am glad to hear you feel we are quick with our responses... we try very hard to do this! I do think the site looks lovely and I am hoping PayPal will respond to you quickly so you can get this changed.

I have spent a whole day trying to speak to a human being in Pay Pals technical department.
This is costing me a small fortune as I'm in Ireland and the technical team are in England.
So far 5 have manage to get no further than all our technicians are busy
Have also tried e-mailing to no affect.
It would be good to hear from someone using synthasite who has a good word to say about Paypal.
I have used them myself to purchase stuff with no problem but have never used them to sell stuff before and at the moment it looks as if I never will !

I searched inside of paypal for such a setup but found nothing in there. Had two more orders yesterday and same thing, no notification from paypal. Perplexed on this one. I searched out e-mals which looks like a great set up but it doesnt offer inventory control without ordering their add on package which is 170.00. I suppose that would be worth the purchase but I wont move forward with it because it is only a code they are giving you and I am not sure that it would integrate with synthasite. I am working on the page sizes and rebuilding the current site, using the paypal still and just checking in but as the business grows, I need something that is much more reliable which doesnt need to be babysat so closely. The shopping carts are only as good as the features that come with them. Paypal offers inventory control but when tested, the inventory control doesnt actually work. They know of the problem and have been working on this for almost 2 months. Emals, I think would work if I could find an inventory control system that is free and is compatible with emal and synthasite. I will keep searching. Today I am celebrating that my brain has finally accepted the information on how to use gimp, sizing etc. lol

I don't need or want their inventory control.....All I need is to know when someone makes a purchase and it is doing that....Glad you are figuring out Gimp...I use their light effects for a lot of my art

I did, it is not there. I suppose I will focus on the fact that I am getting orders at all and rejoice in that. Things are fine for now, but if I were to grow and get busier, then I might have a problem. Just trying to ward off unforeseen problems.

Hi njoynlife,
Have you put in a support request to PayPal? You should be receiving email notifications and maybe they will be able to help.

I will but not today. I dont feel like dealing with them, the wait, etc. Today I want to learn how to create my own mouse over menu bar thingy. See how very technical I am? lol I saw a great link on one of the posts here. A woman created a site for her english bull dogs. Once I find that post, I am on my way to another beautiful step in synthasite website building. :)

Okay Ms Smart

Tell me how I can bring my customers back to my web site if they should choose to cancel.

This is what comes up on the customer Log into Paypal Page.

On the left hand side in small writing

Cancel and return to syra@syra......

Which takes them to an unknown page I want to bring the customer back to my site.
Somehow I need to replace my email address with my url.
I'm sure the answer is staring me in the face.
I have tried the web site preferences and putting in my url and turning it on but this is not making any difference.

This is what I found:

Log into paypal
hit the paypal logo at the top of the page
click "profile"
under selling preferences, click "my saved buttons"
click "create new button"
in the third subcategory called "Customized Advanced Features" there is an option to check to redirect your customers to the correct site after an unsuccessful or successful transaction.
I would suggest using your synthasite address "www.youraddress.synthasite.com" and not the redirecting address.

If that doesnt work, then paypal just sucks at times.
