When I access google webmaster tools it tells me... "Error: The last attempt at downloading the Sitemap failed".

It gives me the option to view the sitemap "" but then internet explorer gives me that annoying oops the link appear to be broken page.

So how long does Yola take to create a sitemap for my website and how do I check that is actually there. I published my website about a month ago

Hi Howie,

It is possible to manually generate your sitemap, but it does take a little extra time. If that's not a problem, and you have not yet tried this, then you can follow these steps:

1. On Google Webmaster, click on the Site Map option in the left-hand sidebar -> "Add a Site map". Choose "general web site map" from drop-down arrow selection.
2. There are now 3 instruction areas you need to complete.
a) create a site map
b) upload a site map
c) my sitemap URL is:

3. Create a Site Map:
- Click on the following link to get detailed instructions from Google:
- Go to your published website. Go to each one of your published pages, and copy and paste the URL for each of your pages as a separate row into a new .txt document, as in example below.

4. Upload a site map (to your site)
- Save the file (it must have the .txt file extension at the end of the filename), then upload it to your Yola website, using the file manager. Save and publish your site.

5. Upload a site map (to Google Webmaster tools)
- Go back to Google. In the file name entry box that says:
My sitemap URL is:
type in the URL your sitemap. This is the name of your sitemap .txt file, preceded by "/resources/" as in the following example:

You should get a confirmation message that says: "You have added Reports may take several hours to update. Thank you for your patience!"

Processing sitemaps may take some time. Check again later to see if pages from your Site maps are included in Google's index. On the Google Webmaster Tools Site maps page: If everything has gone correctly, eventually you will see the status column say "OK".

I hope this solves the problem - please let us know if it doesn't!

- Justine

I was browsing regarding sitemaps. Regarding the link on number 3, I believe it is already outdated. The page is not available as of today, May 7, 2012.

Anyway, the link below is helpful too.
