Of all the slide show options, are there any that allow me to have the slide show native to my site so I can design around it? If not, is there one that allows me to build around the slide show display?

Hey Ben,

Have you considered using an animated GIF.
You can just copy it into the center of your page with text widgets around it.
Look at my home page . I've got an animated GIF with text half way around.
You can use Microsoft's GIF animator to setup the slide duration times - there's
also a link on my site for that. - Oh yes it's free.

Its a simple solution but sometimes they are the best. Ideal for comic stuff.

Boomer, I went with it and have it all loaded up, but the control panel is just boxes with ? marks. What needs fixing?

Go to this page on my site. http://forsite.synthasite.com/soft-gi...
Copy the Mona Lisa animated gif I have there. (right click and save as)

In Microsoft GIF Animator, click open file and open the gif you just copied.
You will now see all the frames that make up the gif image.

Play around with the timing and looping to better understand how the program
works. Its so simple even I figured it out pretty quickly. Good luck.

P.S. I hope you were asking about the GIF animator.

No, somehow I absent-mindedly launched two threads on this. You mentioned the ricocheting product; that's what I mean. Also, please bear in mind I have no Microsoft products. I can download free stuff for Mac if needed. I've never run my Mac in PC mode so that would add effort.

One more comment -- the product you mentioned is on this thread, lower.

I need user control over timing. I'm also not setup to use Microsoft products.

It's a good idea but this is for a pro job.

The SLIDE widget also has an annoying feature I can't disable: it inserts a user opinion poll at the end of the slide cycle, and the close button does not function.

Hi Bengo - is your slideshow a gallery of pictures or something like a PowerPoint presentation? Could you also let us know what you would like to build around it? Hopefully that'll give us more info to find an answer for you.

The slides are images derived from artwork and can be in any format that makes sense. I built a working prototype using TIFFs but I wouldn't use that for the final. The client wants an iPhone around the images so that they appear to be playing on the phone screen. They are not my customer and will be reasonable; this is more like a business collaboration.

I successfully reduced the dead space around the slide show with the two column tool and was just now going to place some iPhone pieces around it, if I can figure out how they fit together :)

Ok Bengo, I think I've got something for you.

I played around with this slideshow generator a while back.
http://www.ricocheting.com/js/slide2....
Works in IE and FF - not sure about Safari.

I've done a quick example for you here.

Here is a link to the newer slide show, with the richochet slide show from Bommer. Note that I am slicing the link in half to avoid people coming to it by accident:

Note the question marks where the control panels should be -- the same effect I had with the SLIDE slide show. Are the controls in an incompatible code?

Hi Bengo,

Sorry about the loading issues in the ide.
Funny.... It's doing the same thing with me now as well.

I've managed to find another slideshow generator for you.
I have used this one before as well... only thing is is doesn't look that great.

I made a few changes to it and I think it will work for you.
Have a look here: http://hindsite.synthasite.com/

This is an interesting thread. I have not participated yet, due to some other demands on my attention.

As far as I know none of the SynthaSite slideshow options provide the level of customization and control that you are looking for.

So that leaves me doing what Boomer has been doing - googling for various slideshow generators and trying them out. So far I haven't seen anything promising that isn't already mentioned here, but I will certainly keep trying.

Bengo,

By this statement in one of your other threads,

As for the slide show, you shouldn't be looking for widgets for me. I can do that, although I appreciate your help. Just verifying that existing selections won't perform is enough.

may I assume that the last slide show I spent half of Sunday
modifying for you does not work?

Don't understand why? - It's the same as the previous one except for the controls.

Hey Boomer,
I don't know because I didn't try it. I have been interrupted. But it has been a very unusually busy week for our Synthasite staff friends so I didn't want them to do something we can manage. That's all.

How kind it was of you to go to so much trouble for me. I appreciate it deeply regardless of the outcome, and when I return to the slides soon I will be in touch. It is a rare thing for someone to donate so much time to a near stranger and I am impressed by your quiet consideration.

I did review what you sent so I have an idea where to resume. Perhaps even tomorrow if things fly along.

Best,
Bengo

A while back I also had the need for a slide show generator.
They don't seem to be that plentiful out there.
I didn't like the SLIDE widget for the same reasons as you.

I bookmarked the richochet one because I thought it was the best of
the handful I found. I stupidly forgot about the loading issue it had.
I felt bad that I had suggested that one to you, and that you most probably
would have to delete the page you loaded it on. I love problem solving and
was determined to make amends.

I was shocked by the fact that it may not be working for you after I had
tested it so many times to see if it had any loading issues.
If you don't like the look of it, don't feel obliged to use it. The work
definitely won't go to waste. I'll store the code in my archives for future
use or maybe I'll put it up on forsite. - I'll see.

I battle to get my head around HTML and JavaScript so the emphasis was not
on “half of Sunday" .... I would have spent the whole day to get it right.
The funny thing is I program microprocessors all day long.

Anyway, if you decide to go with it, let me have a look at how it turns out.

Regards,
