I had my domain name & email with live.com, then transferred the domain & hosting to yola, then purchased yola mail for the same email address. I still have access to my old one whilst I physically forward my old mail into my new inbox (and have also put it to forward to my new alias email address just incase).... but my husband, my collegue and parents have sent me emails I havent received, one even was returned as failed? can you help. will things get better if I delete my old mailbox???

Hi Liz,

It's not possible to use the same email address at two different mail providers. The DNS required for both providers will be conflicting, and as a result your mail delivery will not be consistent (as you have experienced).

If you can confirm your domain name, I can double check all your Yola Mail settings to make sure that everything is in order, and then you can delete your old mailbox.

Thanks for your reply,
My domain is www.artliz.net
I have been looking at some of the tutorials and I did not realise I could use live.com mail ! what a shame. My previous domain host & mail was with live.com.....
Is there any way I could keep my liz@artliz.net email with live.com and delete my new yola one which Ive recently set up and get maybe a partial refund for the yola mail?
Thanks
Liz

Hi Liz,

We can definitely do this for you. We will first need to add your DNS records for Live to your domain at Yola. This will ensure that it will work now that your domain is hosted with us. We can get this sorted first and then issue you with a refund for Yola Mail.

Here is our tutorial: Setting up your email with Windows Live

Please let me know once this is done and I can check everything is in place and proceed with the refund.

Thanks!

Hi Jackie,

Thankyou, I think I have done this now, I am getting emails through my live.com. I have done all the steps and above the refresh button it says....
You need to prove ownership of this domain by creating a DNS record. Use the settings below,
It then gives lots of codes. It doesn't say it is not confirmed or pending as in the tutorial.
How do I know for sure?
Warm regards
Liz

Hi Liz,

Can you let me know if you added any of the codes they provided you with? If you can copy the codes here I can take a look into this for you.

I added this...
ff7604fff8ee42933cad364c8058c3.pamx1.hotmail.com
It seems to be okay as My yola mail is no longer working and my live.com mail is working.
though it does say... need to prove ownership of this domain by creating a DNS record. Use the settings below - I am not sure what I need to do with these dns settings, there seems to be a lot of info...

Mail setup (required)
To set up mail and prove ownership of this domain, you must create an MX record through your domain registrar. Use the following settings:
•DNS record type: MX
•Host: artliz.net
•MX server: ff7604fff8ee42933cad364c8058c3.pamx1.hotmail.com
•TTL: 3600 or 1 hour
•Priority: 10 (or High priority)

Prove domain ownership (optional)
If you would like to prove the ownership of domain and create users without setting up mail, you can use one of the following methods for up to 30 days. After 30 days, you will need to set up an MX record for mail routing as shown above.
If your domain registrar allows you to create TXT records, use these settings:
•DNS record type: TXT
•Host: artliz.net
•Value: v=msv1 t=ff7604fff8ee42933cad364c8058c3

If your domain registrar allows you to create MX records, use these settings:
•DNS record type: MX
•Host: artliz.net
•Value: ff7604fff8ee42933cad364c8058c3.msv1.invalid
•Priority: Higher value than existing records, or Low priority.

Server trust (recommended)
Create a TXT record to allow other mail servers to trust email originating from your domain. Also known as sender ID configuration, this setting will help prevent your mail from being marked as junk mail. Use the following settings:
•DNS record type: TXT
•Host: artliz.net
•Value: v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all
•TTL: 3600 or 1 hour (if requested)

Messenger configuration (recommended)
To federate Windows Live Messenger with other compatible networks, you need to create the following SRV record in DNS.
•DNS record type: SRV
•Service: _sipfederationtls._tcp.artliz.net
•Protocol: _tcp
•Domain Name: artliz.net
•Priority: 10 (or High priority)
•Weight: 2
•Port: 5061
•Target: federation.messenger.msn.com

A little complicated for me!

Hi Liz,

Thanks for pasting this information!

I have added the 2 TXT records for you. This means that you can confirm your domain ownership with Windows Live, and have server trust. It appears that both records are optional, but I have put them in place for you in case you want to move forward with either option.

Hi Liz,

I am sorry to hear that his has happened! I can only assume that by adding the TXT record to verify your domain with Hotmail, Hotmail was waiting for you to complete this step before continuing with your mail services.

I have removed the TXT records which should take a few hours to update. Could you let me know if you are still unable to receive emails after 24 hours?

Thank you for working through this with us.

Hi Jackie,
Thanks so much
It looks like I started to receive emails this morning from 04:30am, very random
and I seem to be still receivvign them.
When you say... "I can only assume that by adding the TXT record to verify your domain with Hotmail, Hotmail was waiting for you to complete this step before continuing with your mail services" is there anything I should have done?
Thanks
Liz

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear that you started receiving emails again.

With regard to verifying your domain with Hotmail, this is something that you will need to check with them. It is a recommended feature by Hotmail, and not something that is essential to setting up your Live mail, so it should be included in their documentation. I had a quick look for you but couldn't find anything specific.

I have deleted the TXT record, but if you would like me to add it back please let me know.

Thanks,
Jackie
