Hey Everyone! My girlfriend has never built a website before so I was going to help her build a cooking/recipe website. Can I get some opinion on which yola template is best for this idea? And I also need to know how I can change the background to be more specifically to cooking / food!

Hey Donald,

The best template would depend on what way you want to organize your recipes. Browse the internet and take a look at other cooking/recipe sites and you should then be able to decide what template is best. Until you decide what way you want to organize your recipes I can't really suggest a template.

You can easily change the background image by clicking the 'properties' button in the yola site builder and scrolling down to the background image option and select an image from your computer.

Hello Donald,
We don't really have a style that is specific to cooking at this time, but that is something we can look into for the future.

The good news is that many of the templates can be modified so you can change the top banner image and the background image. One of engineers put together this great style guide which will help you find a style that suits you best Yola Style Guilde.

Please see this link which goes over how to change the banner on a page: Changing a Banner, as well as this one for adding a background image: Adding Background Image.

Hope this helps!

Sure, that is a nice style! I am also a big fan of Burlap... but that's my personal preference!

The only template I use is CleanSlate because it is basically clean and dosen't take up to much, if you know what I mean.

yea... I think honeybearplayhomes used tasteless... any pros wanna tell me how I can make tasteless transform as much as they did it? lol!

And I am using Allrecipes as a guide to get started. I kind of wanna keep the same style, just change it up a little bit. After all, big websites like allrecipes.com don't have very many limitations... they can do anything they want.

Hey Donald,

One of our users, Niddy, created a cooking website
that was a featured site at the time. I can't remember
the template she used, maybe Monique can help?

I have a link to her site on my home page, where I have
a list of past feautured sites. She has since moved on, I think,
but you can still take a look if you like. http://forsite.synthasite.com/

Here is also a list of all the yola templates.
http://forsite.synthasite.com/website...
You can also click on some of them so see some sites created
with those templates. Hope this gives you some ideas.

If I am not mistaken, I think she used the Red Planet template.

just wondering Boomer... do you use the same site creator as us users? It appears you have options on your site I am not aware of... for example, the slide show you nice have presented and another thing, how can you get the popup note when a user hovers the mouse over top the sites featured?

Hi Donald, We all use the same sitebuilder ;-)

The slideshow was created with http://www.picturetrail.com/
That popup as you call it is created by using the "title" attribute.
You can learn more on how to impliment it over here:

Donald-

I'd LOVE to see her site once she's working on it! I am a big foodie (as well as a graphic designer) so this sounds like a great site.

If she needs other pointers and advice, be sure to post!

She's never created a site before but she's been watching me make sites and she said, "why can't i make one?" I said, here... let's make one... pick a topic and she said cooking/recipes... she loves to cook and we watch cooking shows together, I especially like emeril and she like's rachel ray. So we are going to use the idea of allrecipes and then after we get started we'll change it to fit our preferences. I'll publish it here in a day or two as an example of what we'll have... as long as it's not taken... I think it'll be published to... http://onlinecookbook.synthasite.com
