text boxes in templates, how to delete white and make transparent?

How do I make the text boxes transparent, ie would like to show my background page through them? So, at present they are white (as per how they come with the templates, and would like to have some of them with no colour/ie white at all, so can view bground thru - not a solid box)
Have searched but not found exactly.
thanks JenC

Hi JenC

From what I understand, you are wanting to add text boxes but don't want a background - just a border around the text?

If you could please clarify, I'm sure that we'll be able to come up with something!

Hello Sanja (again), yes, what I wish is to have text boxes. do not wish any background in them (as they normally are white), so that I can 'see through' them. No border by the way.

I'm must be a little dense tonight :)

If you want the box to be transparent and you don't want a border, then will not typing into a Text Widget do the job needed?

Perhaps if you can show me an example of what you're trying to achieve then I can go from there!

Thanks!

Sanja, (back again, had to go out) no not you, must be my explanation! When typing into text boxes in 'some templates' they are always white! - not transparent. For example if I want a page background to show through, or even if I want the background (say green) to show thru, they won't as all text boxes in some of the templates are automatically white backgrounds, or at least on a few of the templates I have tried out, and wish to use (free templates),. I know you can colour the background of the text box ie with coding, but this still leaves it 'solid' and therefore cannot see through to the background - so far have not found in coding where they are actually able to be changed with 'no colour' at all.
As, at present I am changing the coding of text box to be the same as the bgrnd, but this is no good as have to keep fiddling with all margins, and still is a 'solid' colour - and not 'see through' to bgrnd.. I know on a couple of sites, the text backgrounds are 'clear', but on some they are not. Unfortunately it is on a couple of these that I wish to use, So that is the reason for me asking this 'sort of stupid' question. But would be nice to know so that I can do.
Is this more explanatory....... .. just like when we are typing in these comments back to you, they are being typed in a 'box' and bground is white - exactly the same as they are in text boxes. Whereas I would like no colour at all and to be able to have them totally clear to be able to see behind them. (so typing this back to you, the red bacground with the 'bubbles' would show through, and would seem as though I am typing over the top of them. )
Goodness, I do ask the most awkward questions don't I? I have searched and searched but cannot find anything??
Hope this a bit clearer. As am loving 'playing' around with what I can do with the Yola set sites, but this one has me 'stumped'. My own site is clear and so if bgrnd image set it will show through, but I wish to use other templates and they are not like that.
thanks JenC
PS. Its late night here, so will not be back until morning.

Hello JenC

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, that is the way some of the styles are set up. They have a white color blocking. Your best choice is to select a style which does not have white column blocking such as one of the CleanSlate templates.

Alternatively, it may be possible to create a CSS hack to over-ride the white blocking but I would need to know what style you are using.

Sanja, thanks, as usual. Um, yes usually the Clean Slate is always tried out and used. I did try altering text boxes to colour of background in others, but...... oh dear, need I say more????? when viewing in IE, they were all over the place. so gave up on that one, as know what a nightmare that would be to look after! If I do need something later on (if stuck) will get back. Again lots of thanks for 'putting up' with some of my questions.J

Hello JenC

If the boxes are all over the place in IE and not in other browsers, this tends to suggest that there is something wrong with the coding.

Would you mind sharing the page where you have tried to set this up?

Too too late, as reverted back to the Clean Slate one. text boxes and columns when filled in were also off a bit in other browsers (although not as much as IE), but do find that IE is always a pain for designing in anyway, usually stick to FF and then check in the others. Thanks for helping me tho on all bits.
