when trying to change the appearance of the active link using the custom CSS rules, it has no effect on the appearance when previewing the site, but all other changes work, e.g. hover, visited etc?

Any help much appreciated! :D

Hi there Gary,

Could you perhaps paste the code you changed? Do this between a < code> < /code> tag in this topic so I could take a look? (When you post it be sure to leave out the spaces in <> I mentioned)

Regards,
Brandon

Before we go any further, could you please make sure the 'Disable Site CSS Overrides" is unchecked, as shown below:

Hmm. It seems strange that the others are working and not that! I don't notice any errors in the CSS. However one little thing is there's a semi-colon missing after 'color: #5e6160' under your 'visited'.

Could you try adding one and see what happens? I don't think it would change anything, but give it a try.

I think this calls for more experienced hands! I'm sure Nathan, John or a member of the Yola staff will be able to sort out the issue for you.

I will continue trying and get back to you if I find a solution. Could you let me know what theme (style) you are using so I can work with it?

I'm sorry I can't be of immediate help.

Hello Gary,
Unfortunately I cannot help with this as it is not my area of specialty. However, we do have some experienced HTML staffers who will be able to take a look at it. Please note that is a specialized area of our team so please allow for 48 hours for them to review the case and offer some suggestions if they have them.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Ha... I'm not nuts after all... For the last few days I have a had intermittent failure of the same very thing. Like the CSS overrides just locks out the ability to change any variable.

You are not the only one Gary...

Hi ed-a-torials,

I'm not sure if we have the same problem, but sounds similar?
I can change all values etc, but just doesnt seem to be taking effect! :S

I expect i have a rogue piece of code somewhere but not sure where.

Brandon, I am using SqueakyClean. Also the reason i am so surprised to be having problems with such a basic template!?

Many Thanks to All

Nope same thing... I will one day/hour/minute be able to set say a margin setting with it function correctly and then later change that same setting and then go to preview it and nothing has changed.

Looking at the little preview window in the CSS overrides I can see the changes take effect but when I go back later to changes those very same settings I see no changes.

It does this on pages with or without competing scripts so I don't feel that it is an interaction thing and can pretty much rule that out completely on my sites as I have tested it on a clean slate so to speak with no codes.

I have experienced this on a wide range of styles so it does not appear to be a style related problem either.

It seems that the margin and positioning settings are both problematic in this regard.

Log out then back into the site builder= Same problem
Clear cache= Same problem
Different browser= Same problem

Also and unknown if related I am experiencing issues with the background scrolling tick box failing to lock into a no scroll setting as well. It seems to be stuck on scroll for now.

I can't even use the CSS overrides to set the background the way that I need to as it fails to recognize a fixed setting either. I have to insert that CSS into an HTML widget instead.

The background feature has issues as well sometimes as the images fail to change once you go to preview the site as well the scroll happens weather you want it to or not.

Gonna spend some more time on this later when I have more time.

To further my explanation a little. While not exactly apples to apples my problem is similar in that I cannot use any CSS overrides and must do any CSS individually in an HTML widget for the code to function as it should. Though, that too has failed a few times these past few days as well. So at present I am waiting for whatever it is causing it for me to pass.

Arggg, now I use the CSS overrides to try and show an example and it works just fine. I give up... It works for me now but maybe the next time not. It's like a crap shoot and the dice are fickle for me lately with the CSS overrides.

I am going to have Jing handy next time so that I take a screen capture video to show the issue.

Hello Gary,

My apologies for the very late reply to this thread. Do you mind sharing your URL so that I can take a look at your codes and see what's going on? This is the first that I am hearing that the CSS overrides are not working. Please be sure that you have stripped any inline coding to allow the Site CSS do their work.

Hi Gary,

Try this:

.sys_txt a:link {
text-decoration:none;
color: #5e6160;
}

.sys_txt a:hover {
text-decoration:none;
color: #000000;
}

.sys_txt a:active {
text-decoration:underline;
color: #000000;
}

.sys_txt a:visited {
text-decoration:none;
color: #5e6160;
}

This should work.

Thanks for the reply, this still doesn't work. You can see the code working when you click the link but as soon as the linked page loads it vanishes!

Can anybody else help?

Hi Gary,

Try removing the a:visited tag as this would be the overriding one. Just make sure that there is not a a:visited tag in the original CSS as this would then override the removal of it in your Custom CSS

Hope this helps,

Andi

Hi Gary,

This has been fixed up for you. Please take a look in your Sitebuilder on the preview page. You will need to alter the color value still. However, the active link is only visible when you click on the link. As soon as you let go of your mouse button, it reverts back to the original set-up.

Hi Sanja,

Thanks for that, but thats not quite what i was looking to do, I wanted to have it so whatever link is currently being used would be permanently underlined.

I have had another idea of just using the text editor to manually underline rather than using CSS!

Feel as if i have wasted a lot of time here! Sorry :(

Thanks for all help!

No worries, Gary! I hope you're able to find a workaround that suits your needs.
