The Honey Bear went in for a face-lift...

So, I was looking online the other day and found this wonderful graphic artist selling his work on a pay to buy site and could not resist the $20 purchase of some of his fine art.

The Bear I had was great but I wanted a more cartoon and Disney look so I was especially happy to see the fat and smiling bear in addition to the bee, squirrel, beaver, rabbit, sun and of course the glossy honeycomb. Had to do a huge amount of graphic editing with removing the backgrounds to make them all transparent and creating the new menu and making the background but it was all worth it in the end. I particularly enjoy the addition of all the white space between the honeycombs as the look really brightens the site up and that was my intent. The flash banner was redone as well as the banner itself. All those from one artist just blows my mind...

I think that I can see the finish line in sight and the thought that I had floating in my head at the beginning is about to be realized. So close I can taste it. ;)

Any thoughts?

Happy site building
Ed

Looks great Ed - also the rounded glass style is a nice addition, i have a premium credit but there is not a style that fits my site... not yet anyway (cough, cough, hint, hint - Yola)

I was looking through your site its all good but in notice when you click the ask mr honeypot link and go to the chat there is not an instinctive link to get back - maybe think about adding 1.

Lee.

Thanks Lee

The Mr. Honeybear page has on it at the bottom links to all the pages like those on all the pages. I will have to think about a back button but kinda don't feel the need when I have them at the bottom. That might be put on the to-do-list after all the other hundreds of things ;)

Too bad about not having a style to fit yours. It is a challenge at times to see beyond the style and what can be done to make it uniquely yours. Lord knows that I have struggled with that many times. ;)

notice i say 'instinctively' -- i saw the bottom links but i was talking as someone who might not - its the only page without the main nav buttons.

speak soon - Lee.

LOL yeah great point ;) The only reason that page did not have the menu was due to the original site having those apple trees on both sides but as I removed them when I did the update last week I simply did not think to introduce the menu on that page until now. Due to your comment of the back button I added the menu to the "Mr. Honeypot" just now and shuffled the page around... Looks better with it as I was trying for uniformity from page to page and that was the only black sheep. ;)

Looking good Ed! I really like how the style is suiting the site, very impressive :)

@Lee - more styles are on the cards, don't worry!

Thanks Marie...

I just hope it looks impressive when the economy rebounds and I start having those $1000 dollar days. I pray that the site still ranks in the top 3 in the world when it does turn around as I am the top publisher for the affiliate company I am using for the kit playhouses. ;) That day could not come soon enough I tell you

You, see the finish line,.... never!
I think you will be going round and round the "website perfecting" track forever, the perfectionist that you are ;-) Can it get any better?
A site for sore eyes ;-) my friend....

BTW. There seems to be a problem on your honeycomb menu.
It's when hovering over the "Our favorite charities" button.

Hey Boomer can you look at my "about me" page and tell me if the thing you see is there as well? I did a little editing to the code for the menu on that page and wonder if it did anything... http://www.honeybearplayhomes.com/Abo...

All working fine now! Previously it wasn't giving me the mouseover on the last button only - all the others were working fine. When I hovered over it previously , it chopped off the the last 2 1/2 buttons of the menu and displayed white space.

Thanks for looking... So the menu on the "About me" page works fine then without a problem? I shortened that code by 6 lines and if it works I would rather have it on every page to clear up any future issues. Odd that it would happen as it is the same code that I used for the last year. I only changed the image URLs and the coordinates.

Tre Bizarre...

It works fine on all the pages I tested (3). Possibly the last mouseover image was not cached by my browser for some strange reason the previous time.

Just added a new imagemap footer... The gang is now all together and have something to say... ;)

Nothing subliminal about the rabbit's comment. LOL I did not think about it until after I was done.

Imagemaps... Boy what fun (arggg) The image editing, graphic work and coordinate plotting was worth the pain.

LOL gimme some time girl... LOL

I am in the middle of creating a flash banner with the same image with some changes when you mouse over the sun.

1) Smiling sun turns into a smiling moon
2) White background turns black
3) Addition of moving clouds, failing rain, some lightning and a Postman's creed text that has to do with having a safe and fun time in any weather.

A seamless flash addition to an imagemap is a daunting task to get right so that will take me another day or two... ;)

I was just kidding--the sun just looked like he was about to say something! Do you know of a good tutorial for adding a flash to an imagemap offhand?--that is something I was thinking of doing for a website I'm currently working on but backed off of because I wasn't quite sure if I could do it.

LOL lemme write one first... ;)

Seeing as how most searches relating to the subject are for imagemaps within a flash which can be a pain in themselves and what I am trying to do is have a flash take the place of the base image when the sun is moused over I have to pull this one out of a hat so to speak. The reason that I am trying to do it this way is that of course an image loads much faster than a flash does and seeing as how not everybody will click on the sun it seems a waste to make the page take longer to load than to simply use an imagemap with a flash attached.

I am taking a few days away from the process but will fill you in once I have it worked out... ;)

You guys are killin me... ;) LOL
Have you heard of baby steps? LOL I could not simply add the comment bubble to the image because it would not fit due to the way that it was drawn in addition to the fact that the sun looked funny when I edited it to close its mouth so I am doing the mouse over flash instead. I had to get something on the page and thus was the reason that I added it without (temporarily)

I am not Robo-site builder you know ;) I need a break once in a while...

Patience my friends... Good to know that we are thinking alike on this one though ;)

Wow that image map at the bottom looks really cool.
The new flash movie as well btw. (nice improvement)

I really feel your pain with the image maps. The finished product looks so simple, but I understand all about the drawing of the 5 images, and the lining up of each one of them so that they overlap perfectly. (One pixel out on any image is noticable)
And then, after all the graphic work is done, its on to plotting the poly coords.
You have done a fantastic job Ed. All the hard work has paid off :-)

Remember that Route Planner of mine you saw the other day, that has got 32 images. And on my TravelSA home page, the SA accommodation map has got 10 overlapping images.

I'm busy with my provincial maps at the moment, 6 down, 3 to go.
I can't thank you enough for that Meracl ImageMap Generator link you gave me a while back. Yes, I'm still using it. It's a big gun in my arsenal. It really helps a lot with the circle and rectangular coords.

I hope your site is a lesson to others, that to create a good looking site, you can't just slap together a few images and some text. Its the attention to detail that sets it apart. Its the spending two days on just one element on a page that makes the difference.

Its always a pleasure visiting your site :-)

Right back at ya Boomer... Love what you've done with the place. ;) A place that I want to visit one day... A bucket list entry for sure...
