I built a new site on Yola that I plan to replace my existing site that was built by someone else. I am getting ready to transfer the domain name over to Yola and I was just wondering if when I do that will the existing email service transfer with it? I want to be able to use the same email that is linked to the domain name that I have. Does that all happen thru the transfer process or do I need to do something special to make sure this happens? Also, since I have a completely new look (on yola) from the existing site, once I do the transfer process how long will it take before my new look is visible to the world? Thank you so much for any help!!!

Hi Christy,

We are happy to hear that you would like to transfer your domain to Yola! We understand that it can seem like a complicated process, so if you need any assistance with this please let us know.

As you have existing email addresses setup, it will stop working when the domain has been transferred. Once transferred, you will have full access to your domain's DNS settings and you will be able to reinstate your email addresses by following our tutorial: Creating email addresses with your domain purchased from Yola.

There are a few points to note:

- If you are using an existing email service where you are downloading your mail to your computer, you will need to change settings on your email program as well as on your domain in order to receive your mail. Because your mail is downloaded to your computer, you will not lose any previous emails or contact information.

- If you are using a webmail service where you are logging into a website to view your mail, you will be able to add the MX Record they require to your DNS settings once the domain has been transferred. For information on accessing your DNS settings: Managing the domain you bought from Yola.

Once you have initiated the domain transfer and completed the authorization email, your domain will be transferred to Yola within 7 days. You will receive an email stating that the transfer is successful, and you can go and add the email settings to your domain (please make sure that you are using a different email other than the one registered to your domain so you receive this notice).

As soon as your domain has been transferred you will be able to publish your site's new look to your domain immediately!

Thanks Jackie! One last question-how do I go about using a different email other than the one registered to my domain in order to receive the domain transfer notice?

Hello Christy

If I understand your question correctly, you'd like to change the e-mail address currently registered as the email contact of your domain. As you haven't started the transfer yet, you will be able to change the registration e-mail for your domain with your current registrar. For more details on how to do that, please contact their Support. After changing your e-mail address, you may receive an e-mail from ICANN at your new e-mail address, requesting you to first verify your domain name. Once done, your domain is in order and will have the new registration e-mail. Then you'll be able to initiate the transfer.
