I wish to transfer my domain name of www.mauby.ca to yola. However, in reading the requirements, I need to be a silver membership but I am currently trying out the 1 year free trial. Can I still transfer my current domain name? ip: 72.55.186.20 with Dot Canada. NEED HELP PLEASE. REALLY DIFFICULT TO GET ANY ASSISTANCE WITH YOLA!

Hi Nancy,

Currently we do not offer the facility to transfer .ca domains to Yola, but it is something that we would like to offer in the future.

What you could do instead is leave your domain hosted with Dot Canada and point your domain to Yola.

In order to do this, you will need to log in to your account with Dot Canada and create two A records to point to Yola's IP address: 184.72.229.176. Please ensure you create one A record for WWW and another one for @.

You will need to do this configuration yourself and the method for doing so varies from registrar to registrar. We have a tutorial outlining the steps to configuring your domain: Publish to a domain you already own.

I hope this helps!

Dear Jacki,
Thank you for the email below. I really appreciate the detailed answer.

Only one more question, by keeping the domain host with dot canada this would mean that I will need to continue to pay for the hosting with Dot Canada and pay yola for caring the webpages? Is this how it works? I am sorry for the silly question but I have very little faith in Dot Canada to provide me with the correct information.

Thank you,
Nancy

Hi Jackie, I am back again. I have been having difficulties with DotCanada. They are not very helpful. I have attempted to direct the ip address myself but not certain if I have completed all the correct fields. I attempted to contact DotCanada once more but they are not understanding what I mean when I say I need an A record with the @ symbol. Lindsey at customer service has forward my problem to technical support. Just wanted to provide you with an update. Hope you have a wonderful afternoon. Nancy

Hi Nancy

Jackie has given you some good advice. I should also add that the option to point domains is available to anyone on the GCBO free trial, whether they have Silver or not.

I would just like to ask you about your comment that it is "really difficult to get any assistance with Yola." This seems to indicate that you have tried to get help before and failed. If so this is something I am really concerned about. In addition to our knowledge base we provide a variety of support channels (forum, email, phone, Facebook or Twitter) We typically respond within 24-48 hours on any of those channels. So we definitely don't want to make it difficult for people to get help from us but we realize that communication sometimes breaks down.

Please let us know more about your experience with reaching out for assistance so that we can look for ways to improve.

Thank you for your response. I felt much better about Yola since hearing from you. Now I feel there is a person out there!
I did send three separate emails on January 5. I assurd that I would get a reply within 24 hours and felt concerned when I did not. Those issues are no longer a concern since I was able to navigate and find a solution however, I was concerned that the issue with the domaine I could not resolve and would not recieve any assistance as in previous. I did try this new method of communication but it was new to me.

The domain name which I currently have is mauby.ca. Will I be able to transfer or use the .ca on yola, please advise. and thank you in advance.

Hi Nancy. I did look up your customer history in our system and I saw that all the emails you sent us on the 5th were answered on that same day. I wonder if they could have made their way to your spam folder?

Regarding the use of your domain: You will not be able to transfer it to us, but you will be able to use it to publish your Yola website, which we will host. The instructions Jackie has posted above explain how to do this. Please take another look at what she shared and let us know if you have any problems with getting your domain registrar to help you point your domain to Yola.

I know it gets confusing so to clarify: transfer means you move your domain to us so that we manage it. "Point" means you leave your domain where it is, but you set it up so that any traffic to that domain automatically goes to your Yola site. Right now we don't have the facility to accept the transfer of a .ca domain but we have enabled pointing so that you can still use your domain with your site. The company you bought the domain from should be able to help you with this.
