Transferring a domain in- and ANOTHER charge?!

I opened a Silver account, happy to have one place to host, register and edit my website (which is currently registered by Lycos). After paying $99, I went to transfer the registrar TO Yola, and I was prompted for more money? Now, isn't this included with Silver? $99/year for everything?? If Yes, please refund my money for silver, if No, please help me get it transferred in quickly!

I did submit an email for support, you promised 24 hour reply then no word from Yola. Help!

I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced the same inconvenience of not having your question answered within 24 hours, as a Yola Silver member with Premium Support.

As you can see from my answer below, we do not have any emails older than 7 hours in our email queue and it would appear that your email has never reached us.

Would you mind telling us the problem you are having with your Yola Silver account and transferring your domain, if my reply below does not cover any questions or issues you have on this matter?

We look forward to your reply with detailed information.

Thanks for answering Nazlie: The part that doesn't make sense is the additional 19.95 per year, on top of $99 if we transfer the domain registration to Yola? There's no mention of an additional cost before signing up for Silver for those that already own the domain name (and not in today's Terms of Service). So, I'd still like Yola to transfer the registration in for my ease of management in the years to come- and since it's advertised as being included! I could understand a one time charge for a transfer, but not an ongoing additional charge for name registration. I appreciate your help.

I am in the process of adding A records to have it refer correctly from our current registrar until we get this sorted out.

I also understand that I can just have it refer forever, but why? Yola is $99 for everything (according to the website), and we're trying to become good automatically renewing customers, but struggling with this surprise.

Hi reliancefiremuseum

Thanks for the additional information.

There is always an administrative fee for transferring a domain between domain registrars. This is the industry standard and ICANN regulations. You would only need to pay this fee once. Can you point out where on our website it says that it is a yearly fee?

Please note that you would need to renew your domain. You have the option to renew for 1, 3 or 5 years.

Just to clarify, you do get a domain credit with Yola Silver, but unfortunately, you cannot use it to transfer a domain to Yola. You can, however, use it to buy a new domain or to renew an existing domain. Sorry if this is not clear in our communication.

Hope this is helpful. Let us know if anything is still unclear or you need more information or help.

You dont have to transfer the domain itself to yola, for example I use Go Daddy for all my domain names then use my control panel to point them to my yola built and hosted site. I believe that there is a fee to transfer the registrar of a domain due to ICANN regulations and the administrative costs of doing so.

Hi Cory

Yes you are correct. You do not need to transfer your domain to Yola to use it to publish your site. You can point your domain if you are a Yola Silver subscriber.

For details of pointing your domain, see Publish to a domain you already own.

Yes, we are bound by ICANN's regulations and therefore need to charge for administration fees.

Thanks for helping us answer the users on this thread! We appreciate your help.

Hello markigel

Firstly, I am sorry to hear that you have not yet heard back from us with your question. We do not currently have any emails older than 7 hours in our email list which means that your email may not have reached us at all. This is obviously not ideal, but we are glad you also posted on the forum so that we can help you with your question.

When you upgrade to Yola Silver, you receive a domain credit. This credit can be used to purchase a new domain or renew an existing Yola-bought domain. Also, if you had a custom domain with Yola before you upgraded, you would have received a 30% discount on Yola Silver. However, Yola Silver does not include the cost of transferring your domain from a different domain registrar to Yola. Sorry if there was confusion for you about this.

If you are transferring your domain to Yola, then there is a transfer fee. This is not a Yola policy, but an industry-wide standard that we adhere to. The cost to transfer your domain is currently $ 34.95, which includes a year's registration (we add one year to any time left on your current domain registration), as well as any other registration fees incurred.

For more details about transferring your domain, please read through our tutorial: Transferring your domain to Yola.

I hope this has cleared up any confusion that you might have on this matter. If you have any further questions, feedback or need assistance, please do let us know. If you would like to request a refund on Yola Silver please email us at support@yola.com and we will review your request.
