Trend Micro says my yola website is malicious

When I e-mailed customor support about the following problem, I received an e-mail stating someone will be getting in touch with me within the next 48 hours. It said I can also post my question in the Community Forum where official reps and customers would be happy to help me. So that's what I'm doing.

Here's my problem and question: When I tried to go to my website last night, my antivirus stopped me and posted a note that said, "Trend Micro has confirmed that this website can transmit malicious software or has been involved in online scams or fraud."

How can this problem be corrected? I have not been involved in any scams or frauds, and I have not put any malicious software on my site. Has someone put such software on it, and if so how can it be removed? Or is my site really safe? I want people to continue visiting my site, but I'm sure they won't under the current conditions. Even I won't visit it.

Help! What can be done?

Hello mikeslittleworld,
One of our engineers posted on a thread in here a few years ago regarding this very question. Please take a look at his answer here as it seems to still be the case in general: Is Yola going to be tested by Trend Micro.

I hope that will help a bit.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Usually the reasons that an antivirus program will show a warning about a site is due to a virus, Trojan or spyware that someone has placed on that site.

As you are the site owner and have not personally placed such an item on your site I can only assume several possibilities.

1) That you are using a widget that contains a script to open a JS file from another website and that file is on the antivirus software's list of known offenders.

2) Your site is new (under 1 year old) and your antivirus software is simply warning you that it may be harmful because it does not know enough about your site yet to trust it.

3) Sometimes certain chat features will set off an antivirus with false positives.

I would try opening a blank new page to see if the trend micro warning appears. If it does not show you may be able to rule out number 2. Then take all the widgets one at a time and add them to that page to see if the warning appears. Remember to republish and view in your browser after each widget placement. You may be able to find the widget that is causing you this warning and simply delete it to solve this yourself...

As trend is often a pain to surf with, shows false positives and often will let bugs through anyway I would highly recommend a combination of AVG Antivirus Free Edition, Zone alarm and Spyware doctor. I have caught hundreds of bugs searching online for website building tools to include to my tips thread using trend micro and nearly none with the above listed combination.

Please post the URL of the page that your trend micro is warning you about so that we may take a look.

Happy site building
Ed

Thanks to both of you for making suggestions. There is a green checkmark by this topic indicating the problem is solved. I must tell you that I am an older man with hardly any computer knowledge, so the problem isn't solved. I still have no idea how to correct it.

I should add that I haven't made any changes to my page in three months, and I never had a problem with an antivirus warning until last night.

Ed asked me to post the URL of the page that trend micro is warning me about so people can check it out. I'm glad to do that and hope something can be done. I'm still at a total loss and need help.

Hey Mike

I just checked your website on the Trend Micro "Is it safe?" page checker and you are good to go in their system.

http://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com/

It says "The latest tests indicate that this website contains no malicious software and shows no signs of fraud." which leaves me to conclude that your trend micro on your computer might require uninstalling and then reinstalling with a fresh copy of the antivirus program.

Give a fresh copy of Trend Micro a try and also uninstall your Trend Micro browser add-on (if applicable) then reinstall the browser add-on as well, clear your cache, close your browser and then open your browser once more to try your site again.

Good luck...
