Hello
I can't seem to put in a TXT record in my domain settings properly. It will only allow me to put in a value but not a name.

Thanks in advance for looking into this.

Hi aj,

Can you share the 'name' you are referring to as well as the TXT record? Also, please share your domain with us so we can try adding it on our end.

the TXT name I cannot put in is: google._domainkey.

The corresponding "value" is a validation text. I can put that in if put in the "name"

Currently, when adding a TXT record there is only a field to change the "value", but not the "name"

my domain is arseniojsantos.ca

thanks

Hi aj,

Thanks for sharing your URL. Are you trying to verify with Google Apps? If so, then please follow these instructions: Setting up your email with Google Apps.

If you're not trying to use Google Apps, please let me know what you're trying to do?

My mail is set up correctly already and works with google apps (by changing MX records).

However, It's the DomainKeys Identified Mail function that requires a "Name" and "Value". Currently, on the Yola Domain settings, at TXT record only allows the input of the "Value" and not the "Name". Can this be resolved? here is a link which references this in google apps/sites
http://support.google.com/a/bin/answe....
Thanks again.

You have a Google Site not a Yola made and hosted site . . . I would suggest looking for your answers in Google Site forums.

Hi Brianna

I tried to in put the value in the TXT Record and it returned:
"Record of type TXT with name could not be edited: Invalid value"
The CNAME works.

However, perhaps I wasn't too clear...lol
I'm trying to do DKIM signing:

Can you look into this further? thanks

What part of Yola are you using for your site?

hi KanThaiDecor.
This is not about the site/website or development. It's an email authentication issue in the DNS settings, specifically regarding the input of a DNS TXT record . This thread was meant for Brianna or Sanja, but I now realize I have put it under your thread. Sorry about that.

What I am getting at is that if no part of your site, e mail or domain registration is through Yola then chances are you are not going to get your answers here.

yes my dns is with yola! I've just mapped things over. they took care of the registration and administer my DNS records. I don't understand why you think that just because I am mapped elsewhere that yola doesn't have the answers for my question. do you know about mapping and authentication? if so please help. otherwise yola is doing a great job supporting and helping me find a solution. Website development doesn't have to be with Yola. I commend them for allowing users to map to different web tools/sites and the have a great team of tech support for it. That's why I signed up with yola in the first place.

So thanks anyway for your help. but I think I'll wait for answers for Brianna or Sanja.
Kind regards.

This means that Google can't find your domain and I presume this really is the base of the issue. I'll look up the domain and see what I can find out vancouver.

OK. I can see DNS records for your domain but for some reason Google isn't able to get to your domain. It could well be a maintenance aspect.

I have come across a CNAME record :pKUWzbVd-82jl2vVkgygYs7gpLHfSXSvvVEDug14cQg is this the verification text for GApps?

I'm unable to see any A record for the non-www version of your site and wondering if there's an issue there?

Yes that is my txt/cname record. I'm using Yola. I check their tutorials but to no avail. Do you have a good tutorial source for it? I've tried googles & Yolas. Do you have Yola or have you used it?

Thank you for your help, I am a entrepreneur that despereately needs this to go!

Yes. I have used both Yola and the native Google instructions and both do work.

It seems that the CNAME for the non-www has been over-written by the CNAME record of the GApps.

We have to add the non-www a record back into the Zone records. Is your site purchased from GoDaddy or a local registrar?

Just to explain is that some registrars add an A record indirectly by use of a cname record. There can be many CNAME records but the name has to be unique otherwise it will bump a revious record.

I have purchased my site through Yola & have the Silver Package. You keep saying CNAME is that where we should put the txt record in? Here are the instructions I was sent & followed is it correct?

1.Go to: Google Apps.

2. Click on "Get Started".

3. Enter your domain name and click "Get Started".

4. Follow through all of the pages to enter in the necessary information to set up your account clicking "Next" on each page.

5. When you are on the "Verify Ownership" page make sure you on the "Recommended Method" tab.

6. Click the down arrow of the "Instructions" drop down box and choose "Other".

7. You will see "Add the TXT record..." and it will look something like this:
google-site-verification=3gx2xVdwXE6QxTqQWNVfv7zOpWvEjGhMPeLbACv16yQ

8. Select the TXT record, right-click and copy it.

9. Log into your Yola account and make sure you are on the My Yola page.

10. Click on "Domains" and, next to the domain you are using for your email address, click on "Advanced domain settings".

11. Click on "Change your DNS settings".

12. To add an TXT record, click on "Add DNS Record".

13. Select TXT from the dropdown menu.

14. Leave the "Name" field blank and paste the the TXT record to the "Value" field.

15. Click on "Update" to save the settings.

16. Once you have done this, you can then go back to the Google Apps page where you see your TXT record and click "Verify".

Thanks Vancouver.

It has me tricked why your www.clearsightonline.ca comes up but your clearsightonline.ca doesn't. and it most definitely has been before as I can see frm Googles cached history. This is probably associated with Google's inability to verify your site plus other settings I think.

I wouldn't remove the DNS settings at this stage, most are mail settings and won't do any harm at this time. I suggest you wait for the DNS specialists to hit the floor in a few hours.

I tried both " Setup Up E-mail For Your Domain" & "Change your DNS settings"..
My DNS settings after selecting "Change your DNS settings" now have like 10 items listed on them. Should I delete them all & try again?

Yes. I tried both the www.clearsightonline.ca and clearsightonline.ca and only the www version comes up but both should be the same and this is I think part of the problem but I don't know what's causing it.

The DNS specialists will be on it in a few hours time and I think they will know how to resolve this for you.

Hi Clear Sight Vancouver

I have had a look at the DNS records of your domain, Clearsightonline.ca. I see that you added both CNAME and TXT records to verify Google Apps. You need to add either one or the other. I have, therefore, removed the CNAME record.

Can you please try to verify it again? Let us know if you need more help with it.

Thanks
Nazlie

Adding my google-verification-record as a new DNS record type "TXT" results in an invalid value error.
In a test I successfully added googleapps.google.com

My verification record looks like (edit for security reasons)

google-site-verification=cLX_s93ulJ5Gb9paguRxdPDr1t3GiXRln4snihKuCMY

Please advise how I create the record.
