I notice that there has been unauthorized adverts/code/weblinks placed on my Yola website? Has anybody else experienced this problem and what can be done to a) remove the weblinks and b) prevent this from happening again.

Hi Sanjeev,

This can happen for a couple of reasons.

Your subscription to a service isn't exclusive and doesn't filter the adverts added to your site. In this case you need to work with the service subscribed to. Often they have a filter facility to enable selection of appropriate ads.

Secondly they may be only showing on your site if you have for example downloaded a toolbar of recent times. This has been a described issue over the last few months and usually can be removed by taking out the toolbar or similar or if that's difficult run a malware detector through your computer.

It's not a Yola setup it's third party stuff.

Gop is correct, Yola does not add links or advertising to your website. If Gop's advice above does not help you to pinpoint the problem, please feel free to share your site and we'll take a look to see if we can determine the application causing the unwanted ads.

Hi there......I've sorted the problem. I recently downloaded a tool bar which also had some adware(called Text Ehance) that I did not know about. Anyway the best advice on how to remove the adware is contained on this website: http://botcrawl.com (Article entitled: Adware: How to Remove Text Enhance)

I'm a site owner who has links appearing on Yola websites and would like them removed! They are causing my site's rankings to drop. I have no idea how my site's information was added as we did not agree for these links to be added. Many of the Yola sites do not have any contact information to contact the site owner either. I've sent an email to Yola to request the site owner to remove my link that appears. If Yola is adding links to their customer's website without them knowing...then website owners be aware that the search engines may consider your site as spam and not rank you either.

Hello Donna,

Are you saying that other website owners are placing links on their own sites linking to yours?

Yes...normally this would be accepted, but these sites have no content, they are obviously set up to just host outbound links only and sites like this have been devalued by Google after their latest Penguin update. It's links coming from sites like this that has caused our site to drop significantly in the rankings.

We are having to explore all our backlinks and those that are considered spammy or coming from spammy type sites we are requesting that they be removed. This is hard to do when there it not any contact information on the site and the site is hosted with a free web host.

Yes I understand. Thank you for explaining your experience and I sympathise with your predicament. The over-optimisation roll-out is good but the side-effects as you have outlined are bad.

Have you been notified by Google in the Webmasters messages that your site is being queried because of this? If so I would write and tell them of your experience and ask for reconsideration which is a process they offer. I don't think or believe that you should have to defend all questionable backlinks

Chasing backlinks is difficult even if they are good :) but to do it defensively is soul destroying and you never know how many you have missed.or how many new ones could appear in the future.

I agree chasing backlinks is terrible. I had no idea how many links I had on these type sites until I started doing some deep checking. I know there is no way to chase them all too.

Finally Google has had enough complaints about this practice and will be doing something about it.This is not a Yola only problem. Here is a link to an article on this subject and this feature is long over due http://www.webpronews.com/google-will...

Thank you Kan for the article link. I see this article is dated June 11th so it must be a real recent decision of Google to do this. I sure hope they can work something out.

Hello Donna

I'm not sure if you sent it to the right support. "Webs Request" doesn't sound familiar to me. Please log into your Yola account and then navigate to this page of our website to submit your query. Thanks!
