what home are you clicking? the drop down page menu?
what happens when you preview the page?

You should always test code on a test page - use the save page as function to give yourself a tester page.

You could also try that while a staff member assist you
click 'save page as' then see if its only the index which has a problem

It must be your computer then?! Have you tried restarting your computer? Don't worry.. we'll all help you to figure it out. On an aside note though.. it's a good idea for you to create a test site in addition to your actual site. This way on the test site.. you can try out the coding to see if it works. If it doesn't, then no hard work will be lost. I had to learn the hard way too. Hopefully though, this will not happen to you.

So it may be possible that due to a html code, everything has dissappeared??
Last thing i did was insert a html code to change the colours of my menu buttons... and i got it to work, then i jumped to another page to start working on seen as though i has just finished my 'index' page... (took me 3 days) and when i went back to have another look at my great work on my index page it was all gone except for my banner... =(

Yes... sometimes if the coding is wrong.. it can completely mess up your site. Don't fret yet though. You said you sent an email to tech support. They'll get back to you.

In the meantime.... try to download FF. To me, if your computer doesn't allow you to do that.. that I would assume that the problems you are having are related to your computer as FF has nothing to do with Yola. I may be wrong about that though.

do what emmy suggests.
If you want - next to where it says 'save' there is a little arrow click that then 'save page as' name it Test and make it not show in the menu.
I dont want to say or suggest anything more because it sounds serious.

Hi Marcela

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. It seems like you posted this just after I wend to bed.

I can understand that this is a very distressing situation for you. The invalid component message appears if you have added some invalid HTML, CSS or Javascript to your page, or you have pasted text from some external source such as MS Word.

So the first step is to find out what content you had on the page and what the last thing you added was before you started getting that error message. Generally if you hold down the escape key the pop up box will go away and you can sometimes get the page to load.

You refer to adding some HTML to change the code of your buttons. My first guess would be that this is the culprit. If we can get hold of that code we can run it through an HTML validator to see why it is breaking your page.

I am going to look up your support request in a moment and see if it contains any additional clues. In the meantime I suggest you take a break from this while we try to figure it out.

Hi Monique,

If i hold down the ESC key all it does is close off all the error messages - still doesn't make my page come back!

Last thing I did was add a html code to change the colour of the menu titles.

Once you hold down the escape key, you should be able to click on the HTML widget, copy the code and send it to me. I will ask someone to debug it for you. It may be that there is no way to get your content back, which is very unfortunate. The best we can hope for now is that we can figure out why the code you added did this to your page and prevent it from happening in future. A precaution in future is to save a copy of your page before using custom code and test it on a copy of the page. I feel really bad for you as I know that a lot of work went into that page and the prospect of redoing it must seem daunting.

Thank you for your empathy Monique.
It was a lot of hard work, especially because it's to get my home business up and running and I now have to spend more time doing it again.

The code I copied from the link i sent you before.
I will post it here: Untitled Document<!--.style1 {font-family: Bradley-hand;font-size: small;color: #ffffff}.style2 {font-family: Bradley-hand;font-size: small;color: #ffffff;}a:link {color: #fffffftext-decoration: underline;}a:visited {color: #fffffftext-decoration: underline;}a:hover {color: #e72f35;text-decoration: none;}a:active {color: #fffffftext-decoration: underline;}body,td,th {font-family: Bradley-hand;color: #ffffff}-->-->

To be honest, I don't think this was the reason... I didn't lose it all straight after I copied this html, everything was fine and the html code did what it was supposed to.
It wasn't until i left that page to start on my second page that, when i returned to the main page, had found everything has dissappeared.
Please let me know when you find out... in the meantime, you'll know what I'll be doing.......

hmmm I don't know why but my Caveman (Spidey) sense is making me wonder if it wasn't a partial code placement. By that I mean that if you do not place the entire code provided from whatever source you got it from then that can most assuredly cause a broken page.

Could you as well share where you got the code from???

Hi Marcela and Monique

Sad this is happening... I have been here many, many, many times before and feel for you.

If you have your website published and have not updated with the problematic blank page and can supply me the URL of the page your are having issues and are about to loose I can go in and through your source code save as much of the content on that page as I can. This might make it easier on you if you need to recreate this page later.

Just an offer to throw your way my friend...

Ed

P.S. Do remember that I myself have been in your shoes many times before and with my site I my heart lept from my chest more times than I can recall.. If a caveman can do it you know you can. ;)

Hi Ed,

Thank you so much for your kind words, i am actually quite touched by your offer to help.
I haven't published my website as yet as I still have some work to do. I may publish it so I can at least confirm my domain (which i will purchase) so I can also begin my printing marketing and inclue a website for my business. =)

So once I've done this I send you my website address? Is that what you're after?

GUYS...

I have just received another 2 explorer error msgs........ I was in the middle of using PICNIK to make changes to an image and got the message:

A request error has occured: The parameter "names", is required, received "null"

What on earth is this?!?!

Where you inside the Picnik application when you got this message? My suggestion would be to log out and log in again and see what happens. I just tested Picnik in Firefox and it was fine. Going to rush over and test in IE now. This sounds like a Picnik error, not an error that would affect the content on your page.

Do you see this inside the Picnik application when you have problematic code on your page? It looks like an IE error to me, but you could well be right.

If your site is not completely fixed and the page you are having issues with is still full of errors I would not attempt to work on any other pages because you will as it seems get further errors with and on those unaffected pages. This is sometimes a byproduct.

I know how difficult it may seem to sit on your hands but it will benefit you and your site... Patience my friend...

As to your site not being published yet my ability to help is a moot issue as I need the published site to look at the URL and see the source code. I am sorry but it is out of my hands. I wish I could do something. Please don't publish it until the (Most learned) support staff can figure it out.

Marcela: would it be possible for you to wait until Monday to continue working on your site? I would like to give your problem the attention it deserves, but I am the only one working today and I have hundreds of emails to get to . I don't want to rush anything and make it worse.

Let me know if you can wait for me to get some technical help on this and get back to you.

Hi again Marcela

If you can follow Monique's advice about waiting until Monday that would be great but in the meanwhile you can create an additional new site using the same layout as your first and create your pages on it instead of your broken site. This will make use of your time in a productive way instead of waiting on your hands.

I will tomorrow do a video tutorial on how you can transfer all your content on the new site over to your first one when it is fixed.

Just remember it is SOOOOO much faster to transfer content from one site to the next if you make use of the Text widgets to build your site instead of the image widgets... My video tutorial will be on transferring Text widget content.

Going to sleep again. ;)

Your not the first person this has happened to. I would like to see every time you press save or preview you get some kind of restore point. I have lost my home page which contained over 100 links. I really hope you get it back. The only consolation in these situations is now you have more knowledge than when you started and it will look better the next time anyway (that was my experience; now I always use test pages and i use 'save as' to always have a home page backup copy; hindsight is a wonderful thing).

Hopefully on Monday they may fix it for you.

Its probably not the reason for your specific Yola problems but your computer seems to have serious issues...
You can not download firefox?, IE crashes when you preview?, Picniks crashing?, it sounds to me like some kind of spyware or mild virus. You must be using windows right? do you have the latest service packs and patches?

While Yola sort this I would recommend going to download.com and install and run adaware or spybot -- then go to windows update and apply all the latest patches.
If these programs wont install and run it is a good sign your computer is infected.

Your computer symptoms seem wider spread than Yola.

Hi Marcela,

The auto-updates for windows contain the patches. You can go to the Microsoft ste and look for updates. or you can go their Australian site I think MSN have all the facilities.

If you haven't used it before, there is a facility for Microsoft to look at all your pathes and it can then automatically go to and offer you selctive updates or auto updates for your operating system, IE and other Microsoft products that you may have installed.

It's a really good idea to have your auto-updates switched on. You can do this through your control panel of Windows.

Just an update on the problem with your index page. We will answer your support email shortly. It seems that a portion of the code was missing and when we removed the code your content returned.

Thank you for your patience. I am sorry you had such a stressful time with this, and hopefully things will work more smoothly for you from now on.

One last thing though...

Do you remember exactly where I have a lot of copied text?

I have gone over most of the site and re-typed it myself, but now that it all looks the same, how can I tell which is which?

Can I copy the info from my pages to my windows notepad and then paste it back?

An easy way to tell where the MS Word text is:
1) Preview your page (so glad this is working now!)
2) Right click on the page
3) Click "View page source"
4) Wherever you see "MsoNormal" in the code, this indicates that the text was copied from Word.

If you copy this text into Notepad and then paste it back it should be fine.
