Hi,
I want to point my domain to the site I have just built with yola but I don't know what url to point it to. It asks m

This is what my current host tells me to do:

* Account
* Domain Manager
* Address Redirection

* Redirect a domain
Setup your domain to redirect to another address.

Manage Address Redirection
Host Redirection address

Select a domain:
Redirect to (URL):
Domain masking:EnableDisable

When you redirect a domain, the URL in the address bar changes to that of the new page. Enabling masking keeps the address of the original page in the address bar even after the redirect.

I'm confused as I have tread on here that I need to rediect to your ip address??

Please help

Hello Vex,
What we need you to do is go into your account with your domain name registrar and edit the A Record to point towards our ip address. This will enable you to publish your site to this domain name.

We have a tutorial outlining the steps to configuring your domain, giving two popular domain name registrars as examples: Using a Domain Name not purchased through Yola.

There are also instructions on how to use ZoneEdit if your domain name registrar does not provide you with domain name management. However, most domain name registrars can assist you with an A record, in which case you would not need to use a third party service like ZoneEdit.

These are general instructions on how to configure your domain to point to Yola. If you require specific help with the interface of your domain name registrar, please contact them for support.

How to configure a domain name you already own:

1. Log in to your chosen domain registrar (eg. GoDaddy.com, Register.com).
2. Go to the DNS Management page.
3. Set up an A Record.
4. The IP address of your record must point to: "208.75.208.172"

Please note that it can take up to 48 hours (although usually less) for these changes to take effect and you need to contact your domain registrar if you need help in that regard. Feel free to forward any instructions you receive from them to us so that we can advise you further.

Once you have configured your DNS settings, click the yellow "Publish My Site" button in Yola, then click on "I already own a domain name". Fill in your domain name and follow the prompts to publish your site.

Please let us know if you have any trouble with this.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Hi there Emmy,

There is no DNS Management page or A record in my account, all there is, is what I have put in my fist post about the url.

Really confused now, but I will go & look again......

Hi Vex,

Could you let us know which domain registrar you're using so that we can try and look for info on their site?

Well it seems to be up & running now, a lot faster than I thought!

I don't want to clog the place up with another 'please look at my site' post so I'll just pop it on here.......

Thank you for your help & no doubt I will back to find out how to fix the stuff I am yet to find/try, now I'm off to look for all the mistakes I have made!

You have done an excellent job with your site! I just noticed that I had a bit of lag time while waiting for your galleries to load up.. but other than that.. no problems. How did you make your gallery??? It's looks really good.

Thanks for letting me know! Just for further clarification.. with the Flickr lightbox widget.. you have to have these photos in a Flickr account? Do you have to tag these photos so that the Flickr account reads it and then streams it?

No you just upload your pics to your Flickr account & then enter the email address you have registered with Flickr into the widget properties & that's it!

Hey,

When I added my flickr lightbox I added search terms so it knew what images to put on it. So to stop getting other peoples images I just put a unique search term to all the photos I wanted up like 'qwjnccvbfujdckjn' because I didn't want all the photos on my account added.

Thanks Marije and Connor. It would appear that these photos then are public in the Flickr gallery and that I would have to tag 'em to make them appear in the photo gallery. Although this looks slick, I like to keep my photos private to everyone else but my website viewers. I think I'll just stick with my JAlbum.

Littleus,

maybe you can explore Picassa. haven't updated it for some time but there you can set albums to deliver to slideshows with a password. That password is used by the slideshow to get your pictures.

It's probably worth a look at how Picassa have added new stuff as far as slideshows as well.
