Use www. or not when adding links to my sites?

When adding links to my site, does it make a difference whether I use www. or not? Will it affect my search rankings?

For instance, if I use www. in my links to my site but my site shows in google without www. does it still count as a link and, therefore, affect my search rankings?

Did you mean internal links ?

No need to mention the domain to build internal links. For an example, to make a link to "example.com/blog" from "example.com", you just need to enter "/blog" for the link.
Example code:
< a href="/blog"> Go to blog < /a >

note that /link type is root based. To make a link to 'example.com/blog/10/nov/24/post', enter /blog/10/nov/24/post in home page, or '10/nov/24/post' in the blog.

Hello Marky,

As far as I know, it shouldn't make a difference to SEO if the 'www' is included or not. But I'm going to ask one of my colleagues to make sure.

Hi guys! If you want www. in front of your URL, just go to MY YOLA and then go to your site and click "Advanced settings" then you'll see the display for www. in front. Just select which one you want. I attached a screen shot of what it looks like.

I hope this helps!

Please let me know if this is what you are looking for.

Sincerely,
Nathan

Hi Marky,

If you are referring to creating backlinks to your site from other websites then you should use your primary domain, so the non www version if that is what shows in the navigation bar. However, if you do have links to your site that have the www there is something called a 301 redirect in place which will automatically take the person to your site; it's just "best" to use the primary.

If you are referring to how you link to other peoples site's from your site's pages then you can use the www or non www version.

I hope that helps!

Just deleted my last comment as it all went wrong! Thanks Emmy for your help. I guess the bottom line is to try and stick to the domain that appears in the navigation bar.
