Hi Samantha,

Please read this tutorial that we've already prepared for you on Configuring your domain name.... it's chalk full of really important details, that will help you set it up correctly, step-by-step.

This is a quick summary of the general instructions on how to configure your domain to point to SynthaSite. Again, the tutorial fleshes it out in further detail. If you require specific help with the interface of your domain name registrar, please contact them for support.

How to configure a domain name you already own:
1. Log in to your chosen domain registrar (eg. Crazy Domains)
2. Go to the DNS Management page.
3. Set up an A Record
4. The IP address of your record must point to: "208.75.208.172"

Please note that it can take up to 48 hours (although usually less) for these changes to take effect. Your domain name registrar should be able to help you out in this regard.

i have asked Crazy Domain for an 'A'Record and am currently awaiting there reply, In the meantime I have signed up for Zone Edit. Crazy Domain as for a server name and I cannot do anything about that. They offer DNS hosting but of course at a fee. Atthis stage I am just stuck with a domain name and a website that will no go together. Will see how I go with zoneedit and a reply from crazy domain.
Cheers, Lee
Any other advise though would be greatly appreciated that would help.

You do need domain name management (dns hosting) and if you aren't able to get this through Crazy Domains than set this up with Zone Edit.

ZoneEdit is not a domain registrar. You will not be able to buy a domain through ZoneEdit. Rather, you need them when you have registered a domain, but not been provided with suitable DNS management services enabling you to point your A record at SynthaSite.

Important: You will need to request from your current domain registrar (the people who you bought your domain through) that they change your nameservers to the ZoneEdit nameservers.

These are the basic steps:

1. Sign up with ZoneEdit on www.zoneedit.com
2. From the homepage click on "Sign up".
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the form. You can select the free trial option under "Select Service Option".
4. After you have successfully signed up you should receive an email with your access details. Use these to login.
5. Once logged in, click "Add Zones".
6. Enter your domain and click "Add Zone".
7. If your nameservers are not correctly set up, ZoneEdit will be request that you update them. You will need to get your current domain registrar to correctly set your nameservers to those provided by ZoneEdit - ns3.zoneedit.com and ns17.zoneedit.com in this case (see screenshot below).

Note: There can be a delay of up to 48 hours between your nameservers being changed, and ZoneEdit picking up the change.

8. Once your nameservers are correctly configured to point to ZoneEdit you should get a screen like the one below, which will let you manage your "Zone". To configure your domain to point to SynthaSite, click on "IP Addresses".
9. This takes you to an interface which lets you determine where your domain points. Leave the "name" field blank, enter 208.75.208.172 as your "Numeric IP" and click "Add new IP address".
10. ZoneEdit will now ask for confirmation. Make sure you have correctly entered in the IP: 208.75.208.172. We want to point both yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.comyoudomain.com or www.yourdomain.com, both will end up at your website. Click on the top "Yes" button to select this option.
11. Your domain now points to SynthaSite. You can test if this has worked by typing your domain into your browser. If all has worked correctly you should end up on a placeholder page displaying your site name. Bear in mind that these DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet.

Kind Regards,
Emmy
