Using target in html code

Right now I am using target="_blank" in my three archive links that appear on each page of my web site. I notice that when I click on one of my links it opens up a new page which can really be irritating for a user to see all these open pages when clicking on my archive links. Should I be using another target="" that might work better and possibly be less offensive to users?

Hi Randy,

This can be of a controversial issue regarding whether or not links should open in a new window or tab. Many usability experts advise against links that open a in a new window. It can come as a nasty surprise if your user is not expecting it, and it effectively disables the "back" button for your visitor's browser when they land on the new page. See: Avoid Forcing to Open on a New Page.

In the end, it comes down to your personal preference and what works for you!
