Using the blog widget?

I would like to use the blog widget on my other website pages that are not blogs. It seems to me that this is the purpose of the widget since why would you drop another copy of the blog onto your blog? However, I cannot access the blog widget from website pages. Can somebody tell me what the purpose of the blog widget is if this is not usable on other pages? Thanks

Hi Eiwstar,

The blog widget is only available on blog pages and not normal web pages.

If you would like a page that only has the blog widget, you can create a blog page and delete all the other related blogging widgets. To access the other Yola widgets, click on the "Back" button on the content sidebar on the right. You will see the standard widgets open (text, image, HTML etc) and you will be able to drag and drop them onto you page.

I hope that helps!

Hi Ann - you can create a blog page by clicking on the "New Page" button on your Yola toolbar. A window will open and you can choose between a normal page and a blog page.

We also have a great tutorial you can take a look at: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/blogging

Let us know if you need any other help!

One more question...is there any way to add a "Tweet This" function in Yola or does that just work for Wordpress?

Thanks again!

Hi Ann,

Yola does provide this throught the WidgetBox widget under the content panel.

Try the following:
1. Select widgets from the content panel on the right hand side of the editor.
2. Select Widgetbox and drop it onto your site
3. It will then ask you to paste the code for the appropriate widget:
This is the code to paste in:

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="210px" height="233px" id="InsertWidget_a88f5e9a-c047-4cad-84f8-d8fc48abdc54" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf"/><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="flashvars" value="r=2&appId=a88f5e9a-c047-4cad-84f8-d8fc48abdc54" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <embed src="http://widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_a88f5e9a-c047-4cad-84f8-d8fc48abdc54" width="210px" height="233px" quality="high" menu="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" flashvars="r=2&appId=a88f5e9a-c047-4cad-84f8-d8fc48abdc54" /></object>

4.Click OK

Ordinarily if you did not know the code, you could just click on the Get Widget link that is near the bottom right corner of the dialog box that asks you for code. It takes you to the Widgetbox website.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you so much - I did click your link, though and it says "Could not find the requested widget." Just FYI...

I know, random..

Well when you insert the widget into your page..
1. Click on the widgetbox.com link on the dialog box that opens
2. When you land at the widgetbox site type "tweet this site" into their site search bar and "Tweet This Site" will be the first result.
3. Select it from the results and when the widget appears click on the "Get Widget" tab
4. The code for you to copy will be displayed, like I said, I think you'll want the flash code..

Here are some screenshots to help at each stage..
