Verify Ownership of your site with Bing

Bing currently offer three methods for site ownership verification:

Option 1: Place an XML file on your web server.

Option 2: Copy and paste a tag in your default webpage

Option 3: Add CNAME record to DNS

Previously it was reported that some had success with Option#2. That now seems to be less than reliable.

Option #3 is a reliable and relatively easily implemented for Yola Bronze and Silver subscribers.

In outline you have to have a LiveID or equivalent. You login to Bing Webmaster and select Validate your Website.

Add your site by typing in the site URL.

Select Verify now of your added site.

A modal pop-up will offer you the three verification options. Select Option 3: Add CNAME record to DNS

Copy the long string of numbers and characters.
{Paste them onto a notepad page for safe keeping. Similarly copy "verify.bing.com" and paste this on another line of your Notepad file.}

Now you need to go into your My Yola..

Select Domains

Within your Custom Domains locate the domain you are currently verifying with Bing and at the right hand side of that record select Advanced Settings

Scroll down and select Change your DNS Settings

Now Add a DNS Record

Select CNAME in the drop down box. In the name field paste the long string code into that field.

Into the value field type or paste verify.bing.com

Click the Update button.

Return back to your Bing Webmaster page and click Verify. If successful you will be advised.

Good luck

Hooray! After hours and hours success!

What is frustrating is that this took 5 minuites to do and worked first time. Why don't Yola include this as a standard instruction rather than having to go through forums, wasting hours of valuable time. It does feel like Yola don't actually want you to be able to do this and stick with Google!

Hi elitepethomecare

Great to see that you were able to verify your domain with Bing.

We added the Google Webmaster tool into the Sitebuilder fairly recently. We did this primarily because most of the people using Yola want to verify with Google first.

We are aware that people are also verifying with Bing/Yahoo and would consider adding a similar tool for users to easily add their verification codes via the Sitebuilder in future.

So, while it is not yet available, it may be something we add later on.

We appreciate your feedback and comments :)

Hi Jon,
There doesn't appear to be any CNAME record added to your DNS settings. Are you having any trouble in the process of adding the records and fields?

Can you try adding the record again.

Hi Gop, I clicked Domains > Advanced Settings > Change your DNS settings > and added CNAME
faa8349f9d7fbb31c85cc1f7d7a2c37
verify.bing.com in the required fields..........Is this not what I needed to do???

Also when trying to verify on Bing webmaster tools page it asks me for DNS provider from a list...I dont know which to select.

Hi Jon,

Tried to look at your DNS settings but unfortunately one of the NS servers is giving a timeout. I'll try looking again tomorrow.

When you re-check your settings in your DNS manager are the settings you made staying there or are they being wiped off?

Your question of the DNS provider I don't know. Yola will have to answer that one for you.

That's good I think. It means that the DNS Manager isn't throwing out stuff.
You've checked the character string to make sure all characters were copied correctly? ( Sorry to be pedantic but really just reflecting on my own prior experiences)

I can find nothing recent about posting a site so Bing can find it. How can I verify my Yola site so Bing can crawl it? Posting the metadata in a html block at the top of the first page didn't work.

Use option #3 at the top, it finally worked for me this morning. Sign-in to Bing Webmaster Tools, follow instructions, do the copy paste thing. Cname (long numeric thingy). If you have a Win/Live hotmail it's easier. The instructions above wiil work. BTW GOP. tanx for your interest I was very weary when I was attempting the various procedures before. All Good Now!

That's good news Frank.

Bing is important with their increasing share in Search engine usage now estimates are between 35 and 40 % over-all. Higher for occasional searchers (less than 27 searches per month) whereas Google wins for higher search users (greater than 54 searches per month).

It was my very first time at this; FIRST TIME EVER and ...

Yes! Paste the Long String Code under sub-domain setting, "verify.bing.com" under IP address/URL and then chose CNAME from drop down menu and whao! hours of trying to figure it out over under 3minutes.

Thanks a LOT and God Bless You all at the YOLA community

Don.
