I have already set up my site and am considering purchasing a domain. My question is, "if I purchase a domain and give it a different name, will that affect my site"? An example would be j****** and I want to name the domain www.j*** If this is okay, maybe I will consider upgrading before my domain comes up for renewal, which prompts anther question, "do we get the option to renew or do we lose our site when the term runs out"?

Hi JacquelineD

If you buy a custom domain, it will not affect your site. Your content, layout and pictures will not be affected. Only your domain name will change from your yolasite subdomain (e.g. to your new custom domain (e.g. You will need to republish your site so that it points to your custom domain. Have a look at Buying a domain if you have already published to a subdomain for more details.

Your Yola site will be available to you for as long as you have a Yola account, even if you choose not to renew your domain. You can then either unpublish your site or publish it to your yolasite subdomaon.

However, when you buy a custom domain from us, we will send you renewal reminders from 3 months before your domain expires. This gives you plenty of time to renew it in that period. If you have not renewed it, there is a 1-month grace period within which to renew it.

You may find our online tutorial, Buying your own domain from Yola, helpful when you are ready to purchase or if you need assistance during the purchasing process.

I hope this answers your questions. Please let us know if you have more questions or need more help with domains.

Thank you
