Hello Brian,

.au, .info and others are not yet available through Yola.

If it's simply a personal story site then you may like to consider a .me domain, for example, they cost about $10. This is available through GoDaddy. They have a wide range of domain types and these are easily pointed to Yola without additional fees.

The type of domain you select should reflect the kind of site you publish. .com domains have traditionally been used for "commercial" sites, .info for information site, .biz for "business" sites a .com.au is really a commercial site focused on Australian commerce, requiring a business registration number and so on.

If I buy a domain from Godaddy I will have to wait 60 days from when it is registered before I can point it to yolasite or is that really so. How boring! Do you think that there is something I can buy from yolasite instead of .me that might reflect the content of my website. There is a list of end bits available but what are they for. I know about.com and .biz but what about the rest. If I knew that I might find a reasonable alternative.

Hi Brian,

If you point your godaddy or any registrar's domain to Yola there is no waiting. It will happen within hours. The 60 day rule is if you transfer the domain and that wouldn't be possible with the types of domains you're looking at. You can point any type of domain to Yola's servers. Domain transferring and domain pointing are different processes.

You can see the types of domains that Yola can sell and manage directly within this link Buy domain name. If you click on the domain type a drop-down list of the domain types opens up.

Gop has given you some valuable and accurate information Brian. If you are interested in a domain extension that we don't offer you can easily purchase it elsewhere and point it to your Yola site on the same day of purchase. That said, I would just emphasize that alternate extensions have a variety of uses and benefits but if the name you are looking for is available as a .com, it is a powerful extension and is commonly used for a wide variety of website types.
