< "less than sign" e.g., 1 < 2
> "greater than sign" e.g., 2 > 1

Or you could call them right and left arrows

lol, yea, I knew that for the math portion... but isn't there a different name when you use it in a tag such as...

In that case, Donald, I have no idea. lol I've only heard them called "lt" or "gt." Let me know if you find another term.

I'm the curious type and just had to search one more thing. I found this link to the keyboard: http://www.grassrootsdesign.com/intro..., which calls them "less than" and "greater than".
