What do you think of my new Imagemap (image map) navigation menu?

Okay... I became bored with my old vertical menu and wanted to try something different so I created a vertical imagemap (image map) menu. I am testing this one out and if it works well will polish it up a bit. I placed it on all but my links page.

The new menu:
http://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite....

The previous menu:
http://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite....

The page I have the free program download and tutorial on how to do an imagemap yourself:
http://free-flash-menus.synthasite.co...

I would love to see what others can produce with one of their images. Make an imagemap and post it in this thread.

Here is my original thread on imagemaps http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...

What do you think of it? I quite like the fact that it blends better with the new background and banner...

Happy site building

Hey Casey

I made my image with the honeycombs in Microsoft Publisher set to the poster creator page (largest) and then after I was done with the placement of my honeycombs and the text boxes saved it as a Gif image set to 300 DPI

When you are done with placement of all images then goto (File) then (Save as) then in the (Save as type) scroll down box select (Gif) then click the (Change) button then click on the dot for (Commercial Printing 300dpi) then the (Ok) button then type your desired file name then (Save)

then I used Microsoft Picture Manager to crop and re-size the image to 250 pixels wide.

This allowed me to use the highest quality image to reduce and then use as my image in the Meracl Imagemap generator.

I Borrowed this from one of my other threads... http://free-flash-menus.synthasite.co...

Meracl ImageMap Generator is a program which with ease lets you make clickable images - so called image maps. Easy imagemap generator for images with the ability to click on any part of a an image and have either a new window open and a redirect to the URL of your choice or to have it open in the same window.

I found this simple to use FREE program I spent under an hour learning how to use it and writing the step by step tutoria I have on my links page. Under 20 minutes to make an imagemap and upload to my site and the rest was spent making the tutorial easy for everyone. Take a look and scroll down to the large Santa and click on him for an example of what you can do...

It is sooooo easy...

Grace you always put a smile on my face you know that girl... Thanks...

I hope down under is treating you well. Someday if I ever make it on that side of the world I have to meet you and your family ;)

That background was from the beginning one little honeycomb I made into a bunch. It looks far better than it did before and not as good as it will in the future. ;)

I can't wait until the economy returns because my site is higher on the lists than companies who have been in the business for decades. I just need to make sure that it is ready for that return... ;)

Great to hear from you sweetheart. Happy site building

Hey bra! Love the new background and imagemap as well as the Polaroid play home layout. Haven't looked at your site for a while (was away from home for a month or so, and still trying to catch up on everything) all looks great. You still have the "low-rider" of sites.

I've made a few changes to mine as well in the last few weeks... take a look and see what you think. I added a price list, some copy to back up the slide shows and I did some seo and finally show up on "live search"... page 1 for "orlando graphic designers"! Hope to show on google soon.

Hope you had a decent holiday season and all is well with you. I'll try to catch up with you later in the week when I have some free time. Been at universal studios all day and going to bed.

Ciao

Hi Andy

Thanks for the compliments... ;)

I created my main background image with no text with this free generator. Just input the banner dimensions from the style you are using and adjust the color and create. ( I am working on a tutorial as we speak and will hopefully be done soon.
http://creatr.cc/backgrounds/

I did my rotating banner with of all things Windows Publisher. An easy to use program that most all PCs have. I made and found many graphics through paid and free services and then imported them into Publisher. When you are done with placement of all images then go to (File) then (Save as) then in the (Save as type) scroll down box select (Gif) then click the (Change) button then click on the dot for (Commercial Printing 300dpi) then the (Ok) button then type your desired file name then (Save)

Then I used Microsoft Picture Manager to crop and re-size the image to the pixel dimensions for the banner of my chosen style. (Just crop to the outside of the main background image as this is the dimensions of your style banner then resize)

This allowed me to use the highest quality image to reduce and then use as my banner images.

I created the rotating banner effect with this free generator. Mine is set to 2 seconds intervals. Just upload the images you wish to use and create then save the produced rotating GIF image.

To take any graphics you have with a non transparent (white or another color) background use the following free online tool to make them a transparent image. This removes the background color and you can import into publisher and overlay on top of your main banner background without the graphics background to make it look out of place. Once you upload your image click "Edit" then scroll down to "Transparify" in the popup box click on the background of the image and then after the tool makes the background transparent save the image by right clicking and saving.

To make my text in my banner I used the following free online logo generator set to transparent and then imported them into publisher.

I hope that helps you out and you create something great. I can't wait to see it... Look for the full tutorial soon to come...

15 straight hours of this that and the other thing... Editing, adding and deleting... my eyelids are falling fast and I am done for the week. ;) I think...

Maybe now I will have time for some much needed tutorials on several subjects I have put off writing for too long. You'll see ;)

I hope the changes I made are well received...

Hi Andy

Sorry my friend but the page peel is no longer an option to include to your site as the .js file required to make it function is no longer a file that is supported by Synthasite. My file has been in my file manager well before the system change and therefore I am able to still use it.

Sorry friend

Okay so I am officially mind fried... ;)

This imagemap image flip for my new navigation menu was driving me crazy for days now because I could not get some of the bees to show up where they were supposed to go. Come to find out that somehow the file type got switched from (.gif) to (.GIF) in the file manager and the capitalization was not recognized in the javascript code.

So without further adieu please check out the new navigation menu in all its glory. I especially like the fact that the bee kind of chases you around if you move the cursor fast enough. ;)

Sorry guys but this imagemap image flip is not for the beginner or novice and if I can figure out a way to simplify the whole process to make it easy for all to accomplish I will. There is just entirely too much code rewriting, coordinates to plot and images to prepare for most to handle.

Please let me know what you think...

Thanks Ruth that means a great deal as my own worst critic is myself and I am simply trying to make it into a site which is professional in appearance and as it is on the first page of so many of my keywords it needs to BEE.... ;) before the market picks back up.

I sometimes hate being such a perfectionists... I never think it is good enough...
