I've never had a negative comment about Yola, but this morning I find a new text editing bar, I HATE IT!!!! Please bring back the old one ASAP!!!

It covers the text where I'm working. I do not want the bar moving around the page. I want it anchored, as it was. Please, please fix this!!!

Click here to see my Yola site.

I fully agree! The new editing bar just doesn't work. It's a technical bug. I love Yola but I've just sent them my first complaint in three years. Just as bad is the new color wheel. It used to be easy to select the color you wanted, and select the same one every time. Now we have to remember a code.

Now everything takes twice as long, or it doesn't work, and I don't have enough years left.

PLEASE, Yola, can we have our old format back?

I am so frustrated - I will have to do so much work to get my site back to how I want it to look. That is if I can go in and actually edit some of my pages now - they are stuck. ahhhh.

Sister:

I am sorry to hear that you hate the new text editor. However, it is a significant improvement over the old text widget. It provides more text editing options and is much more stable. Options such as outdent, and full justify have been added. It also allows image resizing in browsers where this was not possible before. Finally the new text editor allows us to strip out unwanted formatting to greatly reduce the problems that occur when people copy and paste from MS Word.

The bar should be anchored but at the top of the text widget as opposed to at the top of the screen. Can you tell me if this is what you mean by it moving around the page? It also should not cover up your text - if you could post a screenshot of what you are seeing this would be helpful as we could then investigate and fix it if there is a bug.

@John - You can use either the color picker or the hex value to set your text color and you have far greater control and many more color options than you had before. We regard this as an improvement and the option to use hex values is a feature that has been requested for a long time by many customers. If you could explain specifically why any tasks take longer or what is not working we would be happy to investigate so please provide more details on exactly what you are referring to.

While we do not plan to bring the old text editor back we are very interested in ensuring that the new one is working correctly and is free of bugs. We are also interested in addressing any usability issues. So please assist us in this by providing as much specific detail as you can on what you don't like about the new version and we will definitely take this into account and try to improve it further!

It is never a good idea to copy and paste, even from within the site. The best way to keep a consistent format is to use our Style Designer. The Style Designer is designed to apply all changes to all pages. It helps to keep your text consistent. Any new Text Widget added will automatically apply the font properties you've set up, saving you the trouble of having to copy and paste the formatting every time!

The Style Designer is located in Style > Style Settings > Style Designer or you can click on the color palette on the Text Editing Toolbar.

Sorry, Sanja, but in some applications the Style Designer would wreck a site. On my site I have three distinct sections, targeted at different markets, and each has its own unique and consistent style. Heaven help me if, by default, all my pages assumed the same styles. Sometimes, we do need to be able to copy the contents of a text box, with its own unique formatting, from one Yola page to another.

I have had to re-do a few pages and nearly a full site because the style designer screwed it up. I was lucky that the site had only just been started with a few pages. The style designer is not that good and I personally am a hater of it.

The new text bar has wrecked havoc all over my site. My site is huge and I now have to go in and edit each individual widget box because of this. To change a color, it takes lots of extra steps. As the user who is using it, I don't like the new way at all. Plus now I can't even go in and edit some of my pages on my site. It is stuck. Won't let me do anything. Very frustrated with this - I will have to spend so much extra time to get it looking like it was.

I have to edit all the pages on my website, 300+ pages because of the update. My margins are all gone, paragraph spacing in non- existent, each page now has to be fixed - all of them. And that text editing bar - I don't even know what some of the options on it do, because when I scroll over it the description shows up BEHIND the tool bar not in front where I can see it. I'm also being prompted to "save page" though no changes have been made. This is going to be almost a week of extra work for me, thanks Yola. Maybe you should actually test changes out before updating, I'm sure many who have posted here would be willing to participate in a panel that test out updates before they go live.

Hi Marianne - please see my response above for more information. We are working through a few bugs, one of them being the copy and paste issue. However, you can work around that in the meantime by using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy and paste. My above reply explains the new color picker. You say there is a lot more that is not working for you - can you please specify what this is so that we can comment in more detail.

As with anything new there may be some bugs that need to be worked out despite our best efforts to test the new functionality beforehand. We would greatly appreciate it if people could work with us and distinguish between bugs and usability issues and see how we can improve the new feature instead of simply calling for the return of the old one, because this would be a backward movement that would result in the loss of the improvements which motivated this development in the first place. Having said that we are eager to hear and address your concerns to the best of our ability.

Working though the bugs should not be in the main system. This set of changes should have been done on a seperate part of yola where we could have tried it away from where we PAY to do our business.
We could have given feeback and thoughts there without interuption to our daily sitebuilding.
To be honest. I may be seeking a great deal of compensation for having to spend my time researching and learning to use the options with bugs that stop me from my daily updates due to not working correct.

PLEASE RESTORE bar.
I want £45 for first hour and then £35 per hour aftr that from yola while the bar is floating around with bugs

Sorry, Monique, the text editor is not an improvement. It's a disaster. Here's why:

1. It stays anchored - not at the top of the screen where it logically belongs - but to the top of the text block. So if we scroll down the page, the editor vanishes. If we are editing a long text block, and making many dozens of font enhancements to it in one session as I often do, we have to scroll up to the top of the text block, make the changes, then scroll down again. Every time. What was once a ten minute job is now a three hour nightmare. (And please don't tell us to tether a lot of little text blocks together. In my application, the presentation of short stories or articles as one unit up to 3000 words each, that is not a viable option.)

2. Every option on the editor was once accessible with one click. Now the editor is complicated with drop-down boxes imbedded with still further options. That adds extra work. Ten clicks have turned into 50 clicks. If we're editing at Yola all day, as I sometimes do, that itself can turn a ten minute job into a three hour nightmare.

3. The color picker requires us to stab at random at a likely looking color or specify a hex vale. How? Must we keep desired hex values in a separate file, to look up as needed? Again, more needless work. I must now discover the hex values of every color I frequently use so I can reproduce them in future. By all means let the techies have their hex options - but give the rest of us back the simple, unambiguous rectangular color picker we're used to.

I'm all in favor of letting the text editor accommodate Word - though most folk soon learn to paste text into Notebook first then copy it into Yola anyway. But all the other 'improvements' are retrograde steps. I speak as an experienced three-year user of Yola, with eight Yola sites.

IF THE TECHIES ARE NOW IN CHARGE OF THE ASYLUM, AND YOU CAN'T PLACATE THEM, PLEASE DO JUST ONE THING FOR ME AND A FEW THOUSAND OTHER SOON-TO-BE DISGRUNTLED CUSTOMERS: tether the text editor to the top of the screen NOT the text block. Then at least it would be possible, just, to edit a Yola page. Right now, the job cannot be done. And that noise you'll soon hear is a few thousand folk migrating their sites to Wordpress :)

Love the new added options to text bar but as a daily user (most of the day/night), the bar was still best at top of screen and the colour wheel is great but should still have the set colours too because it is hard to get same colour for seperate text on different parts of page or site.

YES, I can see the colour code number can be used but who wants to be taking note or writing this code down everytime.. ?? SOZ but I REALLY DONT..

please anchoe bar at tope and include set colours along with the wheel because the wheel means we can get a much bigger choice of shades ..

INSTEAD of jumping in and making changes like this to create upset and concern ... then why dont yola have a site or a singl style where we can try any new options out and give feeback before they are integrated into the main styles.

cheers guys .

Sister, I have the same problem, being prompted to 'save' a page where I've made no changes. But have you even succeeded in adding text enhancements using the new tool bar? I've tried emboldening text and adding colors in the usual way, but the enhancements don't work. Even when I manage to locate it, the toolbar seems to have become inoperable. Is it just me, or a Yola-wide bug?

Just tried it. I could get bold and italics, but when I clicked on "More" I got overlapping lists, behind the "instant help" box. And, the color wheel? Forget it! You're right, we're going to have to keep a file of hex codes for every page...groan.

The new text bar is not working properly and I can't edit the size of my text! I used to be able to select sizes as small, normal, large etc., but now have to select a number size and nothing happens.

I also need my text to be the same size as on the rest of my site and now don't know what I will need to select to keep everything consistent. This is a nightmare Yola, the text editor was just fine the way it was and now I can't even edit my website! If it ain't broke then don't fix it!

Hope something is sorted soon as I need to add new material on a daily basis.

Hi Mark,

We have long been concerned with the output generated by the use of "small, normal, large" in the text editor and it not providing a consistent look across your website. We addressed this with the Style Designer. Have you given it a try yet? With it you can select specific sizes for your headers and paragraph text that will applied to your entire website and you'll no longer need to edit each text widget inline.

BUT IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!

Great if it worked...but it doesn't. How can I keep the font size for text that links to other pages the same as text that doesn't? At the moment you can't!

Laura - have you catually tried the Style Designer out across a whole test website yet? It's well and truly messed mine up! And it doesn't seem to allow you to change things back again.

It wouldn't be so bad if the formatting of the text isn't gone when I copy and paste from another page. It used to be when I copy from a site the formatting is kept. For example, I copy from one site and paste it into a text box widget. I have the font set to Comic Sans, and the whole text becomes that font. There is also spacing between paragraphs. Now, it doesn't do that any longer. there's no spacing and the font's the default one.

Please fix it -_-

I spent hours working on a new page Saturday. Today, the paragraph spacing was changed, and I had to go back and respace the entire page, which is one long text widget. I have not noticed this on any older pages.

My problem: the on-screen space created by an empty text box no longer acts as a space separator between widgets

The empty text boxes no longer separate and my widgets are now all squashed together. I would avoid publishing your website during this time - it is only those pages which I have amended with other items this evening (changing a picture) which have been affected. Avoid opening any other pages and editing them as this spreads the problem to the page. I have updated and published changes to three pages - and all of them have lost their spacing.
Avoid editing anything until this is over.

Yes, that's another problem, using the text box for spacing. The solution is to set the top and bottom margins to 15, but, of course, this is extra work. Every time Yola update something these days it means extra work for us!

I'm sorry you feel this is extra work, but the text box was never designed to be used as padding, that's what the margin setting was intended for. Please try adding the padding you require using the margin feature and let us know how that goes for you.

The first rule of product development should be: First, do no harm.

Yola can resolve most of the current problems by reverting to the previous version of the text editor.

But the current problems raise two questions that are, overall, far more important:

1. How does Yola gather and evaluate ideas for product improvements?
2. How does Yola test software changes before releasing them?

We Yola users will get through this. With luck (and proper Yola response), we'll "only" lose a few hours of work. (I'm not touching any of my Yola sites until this is resolved; fortunately, I can afford to wait.)

But my confidence in Yola has been shaken by this experience.

Please help!!!!!!!!!! The new text editing software is not working properly. Its near impossible to keep consitancy across the website with font colours etc and it's messed up how everything looks!!!!!!!!.

Does anyone know how I can revert back to the old more user-friendly editor?

Furthermore, the new Style Editor is near-impossible to use. It's by far and away the worst move Yola have made.

Is there any way in which we can have the standard colour range options back, be able to change fonts just by highlighting the text and choosing a new font, and be able to change the line-spacing?

I cannot belive that basic functionaility has been removed!!!!!!!!!!

We deeply regret that you feel this release has had such a negative impact on your ability to update your website a1web, but as I mentioned in my update below, comments like this are not productive. We are working to address everyone's concerns but you are not contributing to the conversation with a solution in mind. We can never guarantee our product will be bug free even if we never touched it again, because software, hardware and browsers are constantly evolving.

Sorry, Laura, but a1web is contributing helpfully to the conversation with a solution in mind. Essentially, he's saying - as we all are here - REVERT to the old editing toolbar and systems. Just scrap the new update and swallow your pride. The update doesn't work. And nobody wants it. Nobody . PLEASE, will Yola just listen? And shelve its damage-limitation rhetoric? (And yes, I still love you... :))

I've invested far too many hours into preparing my site on Yola to move it elsewhere without a hell of a good reason. Please Yola - revert it back to the user-friendly editor so that I can select and change fonts / standardise colours / adjust line-spacing etc.

At the moment the Yola editor is possibly the worst piece of editing software that I have come across. The designers don't seem to have given it much thought at all. Why have so many added features and then make it soooo hard to change the basic font/colour/line-spacing of the text?

I'm still stunned by the absolute stupidity of this downgrade.

I am shocked and disappointed to find that Yola has caused my site (and possibly two other sites which I'm afraid to open at the moment) to suddenly become double-spaced - completely ruining the placement of pics and other information.

This is unacceptable, particularly in a paid-for service. I've had one reply, but it didn't inform me of a new style designer change, nor if I follow the instructions to click on "Paragraph Text" if it will actually restore things to where they were. Will it affect one paragraph at all (a nightmare, very lengthy task across a large site) or the whole site? If it doesn't work, how can I get back to where I want to be?

After a year or two of great service, this is very disappointing and cross-making.
How could I recommend Yola to others?

I'm here with an update that we have released some fixes that should address a number of your concerns. For one, the text editing bar should be visible to you now at all times regardless of where you are in your text widget. Please let us know if this is not the case for you and if it is not, please attach a screenshot and indicate your browser and version

We've also addressed the problem that was preventing copying and pasting. Likewise let us know if you are still struggling with this.

The tooltips should now also be visible upon scroll over at all times.

Finally I'd like to touch again on what Monique and Sanja have already said. We fully understand your frustration with this release and acknowledge it has been a bit bumpy. However we believe in the direction this new feature takes us in and we will continue to work to improve your experience whether we are addressing issues with usability that you just don't care for, or errors with the text editor that were unfortunately missed during Q/A.

A lot of customer research and development was put into this new design and we will not be reverting back to the old one. We believe firmly it's in all of our best interests to continue to move forward to make Yola the best possible website builder. Innovation is necessary and sometimes messy, but we wouldn't be serving you if we let that stop us.

We ask that you continue to share your feedback and concerns in a productive manner so that we can work to address them in a timely manner. We are so grateful for your participation in the improvement of our Sitebuilder.

Laura, that's a nice conciliatory reply. Having been in the PR business for 40 years, I commend it. But it's full of weasel words. Alas, you have not addressed the primary issue, expressed some 50 times here in just the last 12 hours: your customers do not want your latest upgrade. The new editing bar neither works nor does it offer any benefits whatsoever. It is not an improvement. It's a disaster. It multiplies our work.

Whatever research you have done to motivate this downgrade was flawed.

To reiterate what my colleagues here have already said or soon will repeat across the social networks:

REVERT TO THE OLD TOOLBAR. Please?

Sorry, but I have to agree. Not being able to change back the size of linked text (I just want it at 12pt like the rest of my text) is a serious issue that needs to be fixed asap. No amount of saying "this is an upgrade" can hide the fact that changing text size across an entire website, without allowing you to change it back, is a serious problem.

Taking away basic functionaility is a downgrade. This is what has happened here.

Laura. cheers for same old excuses, but ITS not in the best interest of the customer who pays your wages.

None of this should have been done on main system until tried and tested and bugs fixed but because it was so stupidly added to the main system, many of us have lost money, fees and possible clients.

I want yola to pay for me to pay somebody to move all of my sites away if this continues.

yola is never going to best for sitebuilding options. It is basic and simple and because we use third party apps, we manage to get a good result on our own.

Do I sound Pi**ed off . ?? thats because I am and dare not enter onto my sitebuilding while this RUBBISH is still active
I have far too much info and sites to lose.

The text bar could have just been added to where it was already situated.

The text editing bar is now visible, stuck to the top of the work area, where it essentially was before. Also, I'm no longer being asked to save my work every time I switch pages. The editing bar is not user friendly, so hopefully more work will be done on that. I also have huge spacing between paragraphs, which I did not have a couple of hours ago. :(

Luckily I didn't edit any other pages on the site and they display properly.
This means I cannot update my website - I cannot add any new pages or edit any of my current pages or the text spacing will be completely messed up.

I cannot have my homepage is such messed up state for long.

I have just tried to highlight some text and create a link to a new page. This isnt working properly. It seems to work periodically for some of my existing pages but only a few. For those that work, it only creates a link for half of the highlighted text so looks incorrect and badly done. Then, its impossible to clear the link so I have to delete and rewrite the text and try again. Please sort this out. I also think the change to the font size is stupid and not helpful at all. I don't see why the icons are so small, people with visual impairments will struggle to see some of these. Surely the quick buttons on the edit bar should have the most used buttons such as font, font size, format etc. Its a pain that it is hidden under 'more'. I am very disappointed with the new changes. Apple and other leading companies give their customers the option of updating their system. I am disappointed at the responses given by Yola when I haven't seen a positive review or even a need for these changes. The colour selection is not user friendly. Was there any customer consultation before you implemented these changes?
