What is the Simplest Way to Upgrade from Basic Style to Premium Style with Minimum Fuss?

Our site: www.aconitejewel.com

Basic Style: Swanky.

Can you suggest a very similar Premium Style as an ideal upgrade/fit for the Swanky basic style? Or a means of implementing a Premium Style that incorporates most or all of the Swanky style's elements, eg colour, font, etc.

I'm considering upgrading to a Premium Style but I do not want to have to re-type/copy/paste the code of my site again. And I'm considering this to be rid of the 'Designed by Free CSS Templates' disclaimer. Yes it still bugs me. Heh! :)

What is the easiest/least time-consuming way to go about this for our particular style and site?

Thanks,
Paul & Kerri

Hello Paul

Yola's premium style library allows you to try a premium style to see how it looks on your site before purchasing.

You can change templates/styles without losing content except if you have uploaded your own banner image or background image with one of our styles.

If you change styles you will need to re-insert the banner image and/or background image. To do this, click on "Edit Page Design" and go to either "Banner Image" or "Page Background" and follow through the steps to re-insert the lost image.

Of course, if you are not using a custom banner image then you have nothing to worry about and you can change styles freely without worrying about losing your work.

Once you have decided which premium style you would like to use, then you can purchase the style before publishing your site again.

I hope this helps.

Hi Sanja

Merry Xmas by the way. :)

What about all the formatting, eg fonts text italics, colours, alignment, formatting, etc?

All of our banners are custom. What if a Premium Style banner is of different dimensions to those of the Swanky banner dimensions used for our custom ones?

Cheers
Paul

Merry Christmas to you too Paul :)

All of your font colors, alignment, etc..will be retained. The only thing that will not be retained are your custom banners. These you will need to re-add to your site.

Thankfully, Yola gives you the option to upload a different banner image on each page of your site, or apply the same banner image to all pages. To apply the banner image to all the pages on your site:

1. Click on "Edit Page Design", then click on "Banner Image" and "Apply to All Pages".
2. A dialog box will open asking you to confirm whether you would like to apply the change to all the pages on your site. Click on "Apply and Save" if you would like to go ahead.

This will apply the banner images to all of the pages of your site.

For more on how to personalize your style see our tutorial Personalize Your Style.

For a step by step video on how to change you banner and background on Yola.tv, please see: Changing banner and background

Also, you can simply preview your site without having to actually try it or buy it. This way you can be sure not to lose anything if you don't like it. Go to the premium style you'd like to see, click on "Select Style" and you will see a preview of your site using that particular style. If you don't like it, then you can click on "Go Back". Again.. though.. your custom banners will not show up in the preview dialogue box.

Hopefully I've helped!

Thanks Sanja

That's pretty much what I thought/hoped would be the case.
However, you didn't mention if there would be an issue regarding different banner dimensions between styles. ie would editing and re-applying a custom banner into a premium style still work properly if that style's banner was of different dimensions? From experience with the basic styles, many of the banner dimensions are different from style to style.

Will definitely have a look at Personalize Your Style.

Thanks,
Paul

Sorry Paul!

The banner dimensions may or may not be different. It really depends on the style. You can resize your banner. To do this, click on "edit banner". The image banner editor will open up and you will be able to crop and resize your banner image to fit precisely in the available space. Click on "OK" once done and your edited banner image will be added to your page. Click on "save" for the changes to be saved to your page.

Please note that if your original banner is smaller than the banner template area, then, by stretching it, it will result in your banner looking blurred. Please be sure to have your banner at least the same size or a bit larger than the banner area.

You can find out what the recommended size is by clicking anywhere inside the banner area or by going to "Edit Page Design", then go to "Banner Image". A banner editing menu will open up. At the bottom of the box, you will see "Banner size: 940px by 200px" (these dimensions will vary depending on the template used).
