Boomer, as always, you have done a superb job. The little tweaks you made only enhance your website. The scrollers on the side look AWESOME with the blank spaces now removed.

Your banner is eye-catching and professional-looking.

I noticed that you have a local time thing on your site. It would be a cool feature to add the user's local time so they can see the time difference (if any).

Your contact link doesn't work as Lee pointed out.

A suggestion for your "What's on the Menu" section.

The sub-pages would benefit from a little more tweaking. It doesn't seem to measure up to the professional look you have on your homepage. I would suggest having that background image spread across the whole page instead of a small block in the left hand corner. Then, have your menu centered on that image. Also, I noticed that your text changes color which is cool but this seems to indicate to me that it's a link but it doesn't' go anywhere. Also, the back function doesn't seem to work.

Ohh.. Boomer, you must be so confused about my last paragraph. I just realized that I opened up the links to a new window instead of just clicking on it and allowing it to upload into the iframe.

Sorry about the confusion.. and the back link does work!

Boomer the page is great. I like all that's on it and all the features.
Your contact doesn't work for me just goes back to refresh the home page.

From a consumer's perspective:

How do i get there?
How do I link in with providers of transport/trips to see the surrounding places mentioned? Do the accom places arrange tours etc?
Are there overnight stays and extended tours that either return or go on to another place?
How long should I plan to stay here?
What's the climate like at various times of the year?
What currency should i bring. Can I use my credit cards? Can I use my mobile with international roaming?
Should i book in advance? Should I book ongoing domestic and other Afrcan destinations flights?
Should I consider vaccines or take malaria prophylaxis for stays here?

As you're aware some of the most commonly asked questions by travellers. I could well be jumping the gun here and if so will wait for those added pages.

Excellent

Some excellent feedback on this thread for a magnificent site.

I am keen to see additional pages. Peter has provided some great ideas for additional content that users can click through to.

Keep developing this site and soon we will have the whole Yola community showing up on our doorstep! (sorry, you are only going to get hopelessly biased opinions from Yola staff)

For instance what's the quickest easiest way to overland it for a sightseeing trip to Namibia and then be back for a fish bbq on the wharf for dinner? Say for 150R? (Inclusive of course. Alcohol additional!)

Phew....thanks all you guys.

You too Marije?.... Looks to me like the Yola recruiting bus stopped over in the Helderberg once upon a time ;-)

@ Alex. Thanks mate. The horizontal scroller seems to move at different speeds in different browsers plus it also seems to be "connection speed" dependent. I'll have to find a better one some time.

@ Lee. (aka Mr.favicon) The pizza link works for me? I should have
mentioned that the "contact us" link is not functional yet. The contact page I am leaving till last because it needs a lot of thought. I am going to have to sign up potential advertisers and possibly have some form of payment option and a means for them to upload images. As you, I am hoping to generate revenue from advertising and referals. It's great for me that someone here has a similar site idea and I wish you every success with yours.

@ John. I see you got the screenshooting down to a T now ;-)
I'm still not seeing what you are seeing with regard to the overlapping text.
I've viewed it in a few browsers. Anyone else ???
The banner was actually a leftover from a previous site which I modified slightly.
Seeing as everyone seems to like it, maybe I'll stick with it for a while.

@ littleus. What's this woman on, was my first thought until I read your second reply ;-) You did get me thinking though. I always right click and open in a new tab myself. Habit. Yeah, It doesn't work with iframes. That's why it's so good having all you expert click testers to rely on.
The local time thingy. Mmmm.......I'll give it some thought. Thanks.

P.S. I haven't forgotten about your contact button problem.
It's just that I don't have a solution for you yet.

@ Emmy. Get your boody over here girl!

@ Marije. You're the doll look-a-like with the green top and the long brown
hair right? I'll look out for you next time. Nice to know you also live in such a beautifull part of the Cape.

@ Peter. Now this is what I like to hear. Real constructive input. You've been chatting to my (3 house down) B&B neighbour haven't you? You guys can shake hands ;-)
After my 2 hour "website analysis" chat with him in the week, I'm looking at it more from a travellers perspective now. I didn't want to go the travel booking route. I was thinking more travel directory but I may change direction now. I'll have to see where I end up.

Fish BBQ next to the ocean sounds (smells) great. Just picture it. Me, you,
your friend from Namibia, Monique, Ruth, Marije, "EMMY", and anyone else who wants to join. I'll supply the wine, Yola the cocktails, Emmy the fish and
you the Lao Khao. Littleus.......no kids allowed sorry ;-)

@ Monique. Thanks a lot. Makes sense now to move that Yola office to the
Helderberg area. That commute into Cape Town must be a killer ;-)
Think of it... that's an extra 6 or more woman hours to devote to this
wonderfull Yola community.

@ Ruth. Baie dankie. Hey!.....you didn't respond !! Ok.... delete, delete.

New rule: All Yola staff that live in the Helderberg area need to bookmark
this site and visit it every day. http://www.helderberg.cc/
P.S. Tell a friend too ;-)

The travel booking route is a wholle new direction Boomer. Something I wouldn't get involved in because it runs the risk truly of becoming aligned and subjective. Travellers info is really where your niche is. You can tailor it to anything of interest.

If you get into bed with the operators then they will call the shots somewhat. If it's an affiliate of a business that's fine. If it's to be looked at as an objective source of what's truly around the way you're going with adverts is the best way.

You call the shots and they can tag along!

The big travel sites here work on 10% to 15% booking fee commision.
These big boys have the infrastructure to handle bookings and charge commissions. Me, not - at the moment ;-)

My initial idea was to create a national directory catering for the smaller B&B's, guest houses, campsites and cheaper accommodation. Once I started I realised the mamoth undertaking and quickly scalled it down to only the Western Cape province. 100 towns per province x 20 listings = 2000 listings for the Western Cape where it would have been 18 000 plus minus for the whole country. That's 18 000 photos (the paid for ones would have a tooltip popup and a website link as well) 18 000 phone, email, and 8 travel icons with descriptions per listing. Grand total 200 000 plus data entries and about 900 pages. I still plan to do it sometime though.

So.... once I decided to concentrate on the Western Cape only I thought why not create a second site encompasing one area only (the area I live in) and it already includes 3 of the towns in the Western Cape. All I had to do was give it a home page. The Helderberg site is part of a much bigger site. The user would hopefully not even know he left the bigger site.

The Helderberg site is just a testing ground at the moment. I will experiment with boat charters, game parks, car rentals, restaurants, estate agencies and of course accommodation advertising for the moment.

Wouldn't it be great if I could pull this one off and show the big boys what's possible with one guy and a free website builder !!

Sorry for the long post, Peter. Just wanted to put in the picture of where I'm going with this. Watch this space!!

Really interesting stuff.

travelfish.org was one I worked with a few years ago. Their goal has changed but the small runner can certainly be effective.

You're vision is well out of the league cf. travelfish just the same game.

Boomer Dudes! What up, bra? Site is awesome! Love the banner and scrolling text.

What slide show did you use? I'm having problems with flickr missing images and thumbs. I tried several others but can't find a clean one without ads. Yours is great... if you don't mind sharing it, I would love to convert.

Peace

Hope all is well with you. I've been real busy with a few design projects, got into social media networking and have been setting up a new system... software, file transfer, color and monitor calibration, new graphics card, networked it to the old one, printer sharing, 5 speaker suround sound with an amp, etc... what a project.

Got 6 gigs with a quad core now - damn is this machine fast! I can't believe I've gotten by with only 1/2 gig of ram for soo long. It took 512 just to fun Photoshop! I've upgraded to cs2 now and lovin it. I couldn't run Illustrator before due to system limitations, and now I'm learning that as well.

The slide show I'm asking about is on page 1 top left just under the banner. The vertical scroller is cool also if you don't mind sharing that as well.

Cool office GG !

I have an old pair of Kenwood speakers that look just like those.
Bought them 2nd hand. Best speakers I've ever owned.
They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Anyway, here's the fade in slideshow link:

And the vertical scroller link:

Give me a shout if you need any help setting them up.

but all I get is a white square.

I have the images in a folder called "logos" in the file manager

Hi Guido graphics - I presume you are trying to add the fade, if its the vertical scroller just ignore this - are you sure your calling the correct the array? thats the problem i made first when adding the fade show.

Hi Guido,

The images don't seem to be in your file manager.
A quick way to test, is to open a new tab in your browser.
Paste the image URL into the address bar up top and see if it appears.
Eg. http://guidographics.synthasite.com/r... isld.jpg

Maybe the file manager does not like the "space" between the image name
like you have in "gnd isld.jpg" I always make it one word as in "gndisld.jpg"

Just thinking aload here. I've never done it that way before.
Have you republished also ??

That did it! you rock, bra! It only shows in the live version... should I see it in the site builder also? I also notice that it doesnt automatically resize the images to fit like flickr does. I guess I should just go in and change all the sizes to be uniform? or is there a setting i can adjust to make it resize them?

Thanks a lot for your help!
