Why has Yola removed these important ecwid store functions???

Couple issues with the new Yola storefront. I prefer to use the ecwid control rather than the one provided from Yola because of the size shown on the screen. Yola's option is much smaller and frustrating to work with. Unfortunately Yola has chosen to disable certain features from the original ecwid control panel. I can't change my password and I don't have the option to import and/or export products! These are IMPORTANT features. Please make them available to us!!!

Hello Bonnie,

Glad you are still working on your store.

You most certainly can export and import your products exactly as you do with the native Ecwid.

There is no difference between the Yola vs the native Ecwid size. It's simply controlled by the style and layout you create in your site. There is also the ability to chnage the thumbnail and full size images displays which can help if you wish to compress these a little. If you mean Yola's use of the modal window to contain the Control panel, I guess that's a personal preference and not sure if this can be adjusted in size?

The Customer sign in is the same for both the Yola Ecwid and the native Ecwid. If a customer forgets their password they can click the Forgotten password link and it will be sent to them. They may also change their login by using an alternative sign-in if they wish. I'm unaware of a process for a customer being able to chnage their password with the native Ecwid store so you may be able to direct me on this issue.

When I went to access my ecwid account from their page it requested a password. Uncertain of what it was, I requested one be sent to me. They sent me a new password that works on their site but it's composed of so many numbers and letters it is impossible for me to remember so I would like to take there sites advise and change it to one of my liking. According to them if you go into the Control Panel ->My Profile ->Profile Settings you will see a place to create a new password. I have found such a place by logging into a newly created "free" version from their website. This feature is NOT shown on the Yola provided store. It's not shown from the Yola page or if the page is accessed with ecwid. Therefore I currently have NO way of changing this extremely long password to something more of my liking!

OK. I understand.

The Ecwid native and the Yola-Ecwid are not interchangeable as I have been advised by Yola. So I wonder if that information is in fact correct or if you are unknowlingly using a separate store?

of course the proof of this is that when you do login with the Ecwid supplied password are you able to see your product catalogue? Please tell me as I am most interested. You may have possibly made a discovery Bonnie.

I'm not avoiding your question i just need a bit of clarification for my understanding.

You are incorrect on that one. They are interchangeable and I much prefer accessing them from the ecwid site because the Yola screen is very small and harder to work with for any length of time. The content is the same between the two.

With that said, if you were to register for a free ecwid site (As I have done also) from the excid page, the look is slightly different. It provides an easier understand presentation for code changes and offers a few different user interfaces that Yola is lacking. I think although the feature of the final cart are more limited in the free option and not what I'm looking for, that large portions of the user interface were lost that would be helpful in learning the system that might be otherwise discouraging clients now.

After working on this almost non-stop for three days... you ask me this? LOL I just recall seeing some screen shots that had html blocks that explained and detailed code. In the yola version I did not have the same introductions but rather found it almost hidden within the css within the design settings page. Likely screens a more experience user might easily overlook but I personally found it extremely helpfull after stumbling on it for myself. At least it would have answered a few questions upfront rather than spending large amounts of time looking for answers.

Not sure if you have had a change to check out my site since we spoke the other day. Still a work in progress since I put the product entry and hold and focused on design. I've been able to resolve many of my original questions but I am still researching one maybe you can help with. I've already learned I need to be careful on my wording so I hope I get this correct. I want hairline borders on the product and category frames. Here is an example http://www.woitasacres.com/resources/...

Any suggestions?

So you want the border lines even finer than they are? if so give me an estimate of the width relative to what is displayed (eg half, quarter?) I removed the ones on mine totally, even on mouseover, and used an image zoom to highlight the moused over product which suits me and not suggesting that it would be a choice of others but certainly another option if you wish to minimise borders and separations.

You can also set it up that the borders only appear on mouse over. Let me know. I will research the process as I know the location of the code already.

My product offering is currently limited to Lupine and Kuranda products. I hope to expand in the future. I use www.revivalanimal.com for those supplies.

OK. It took me a minute to understand the question. The link above is how I want it to look, not how it is now. Here is what I have now...

OK. Just to confirm. You want the hairiline border to be always visible, not just when moused-over?

I have found a potential solution to this. I do need some extra info though.

This is some CSS to add to your Ecwid design:

div.ecwid-productBrowser-productsGrid-productTopFragment {
border: solid 1px #F8F7F2;
border-bottom: none;
}

div.ecwid-productBrowser-productsGrid-productBottomFragment {
border: solid 1px #F8F7F2;
border-top: none;
}

The line colour can be changed. Then you will need to measure the vertical and the horizontal distance between the product borders so that we can set a mid-line or bring the product boxes together so that the lines coincide. There are downloadable tools specific for browsers that will do this if you don't have one.

That would be awesome! YOU ROCK!!!

Any chance you have some magic code or something to insert a footer on all pages? I am expanding my footer design and hate the fact that it needs to be duplicated on all pages for each change. I is one thing if it were as simple as one text widget but now I'm considering multiple widgets within the footer and the process to repeat the design on all pages consistently is not something I look forward too. I realize Yola does not currently offer this but even the ability to cut and paste a widget that contains multiple widgets to another pages would be a HUGE plus!

Bonnie,

You may have told me this but I don't recall. Do you have Yola Silver? If so it's relatively easy to add or edit footer stuff.

Also, do you have any experience with using multiple ecwid carts within the same page? I'm thinking about using "products" on my available puppies pages but I want the look and function completely different than the store. I'm wondering how it would effect the cart. Would they work independent of each other?

I do not want the ability to just click a link to purchase a dog. I do screen all my buyers. Instead I am looking for the ability for them to place a deposit down on or make payment on a pup that they have received authorization for. Maybe require a code that I would have to provide them. This would allow them to make deposit, full payment or even shipping fees and to receive a copy of the required contracts upon request. Again... only with this approval code. It would also show other visitors that they are available or sold. I would also strongly desire the ability to place a SOLD banner on the photo after deposit is received.

Do you know if ANY of this is possible????

I think that your idea of multiple carts for the one site is a no go. I also think there are other options as Ecwid have a facility of sending a note to customers at the time of transaction. So you may like to look at this possibility and maybe come up with a solution by this facility.

My brains is hurting now and I need coffee!

I think once again I have to push you outside your comfort zone on this one. You CAN add more than one cart. I've tried it but not tested the checkout feature to see if it combines things or not. It's not a big deal to me either way.. but it might be confusing to a customer if they are making final payment and want to buy a couple items at the same time. Again, not a deal breaker on that part. I'm more concerned with the requirement of a specialized code for each product. This way only they can make payment on this item and only after they have been prescreened.

OK. You have a footer facility with Silver.

it's under Site>Site Settings>Site CSS. Haven't got my Silver opened at this time but it's there somewhere where you can add stuff to your footer sitewide. Never used it. :)

I don't see the post about a clever use of coupons...
I don't see that working. Coupons are a discount at the end of a sale. The don't restrict a sale from being completed.

I'm thinking of an option but its not coming together in my mind quite yet. Yola has a feature for password protected pages. If you were to list each pup as a category and as an individual product. Link the category page magicly to open a password protected page that would require a password before opening the product page?

We would need a code for a category to open a yola page and then create a yola page that is password protected and upon password entry it would forward back to the ecwid product page.

I know who to make the yola page forward to the product page and how to password protect it.. now you proved me a way to make the category open this yola page!

Wow. I just read that. Did it make any sence?
Create a yola password protected page that forwards to a excwid produt page.

Now find a way to get the ecwid category to open that yola page.

I guess if I really wanted to take all the additional time ... I could create thumbnail images and info on a yola widget on the page and link it to a password protected page. Have that page designed to open the ecwid product page selected. That might just work. It just sounds so much easier uploading photos and having ecwid to all the re-sizing and formatting.

On a really sad note, i have recently been adopted by a dog (maybe 12 mo ago). She's a really nice animal and believe it or not abused by her very young mother.

She had two remaining siblings who remained with their mother. I vaccinated these and treated them for red mange gave them depot contraceptives and their well being improved because people started to give them food and so on because they looked better.

The two siblings disappeared over two weeks and later I found out that a very dodgy character had sold them to a "dealer" because there were too many dogs in the street. In Thailand that means they were sent by covert transport to Vietnam literally for dog-meat. It's quite a lucrative trade although illegal.

My dog then became pregnant despite being given the contraceptive injections. She delivered seven puppies six survived. Healthy and vaccinated. My dogs mother also had another litter of 9, 8 survived. The owner has had them vaccinated for rabies but two weeks ago 6 disappeared when the dodgy bloke was back in town.

I don't have so much of an argument against eating dog meat but the method of sacrifice is shocking and the transport conditions as you can imagine, appalling. They skin the animals alive because it improves the flavour of the meat. Simply barbaric.

That is horrible. It's amazing how things are regarded so differently in other countries. I do not think eating dog meat is even legal in the US although may years ago I had purchased a Chow Chow and warned that it was a highly prized meal in other countries and to be very careful.

Although I find the practice shocking I have to remind myself that at the same time I am the first to consume chicken, pork and beef products. These too are animals. I wish I were a strong enough person to boycott all meat products but I'm simply not. Although I have not witnessed it first hand, I believe poultry is done in a similar fashion. Oh my.. you had to go put that picture in my brain!

OK, now I need caffeine, although I prefer mine cold.

OK. I think I have a work around. I put up a test page so don't expect this to be up forever.

I created a yola page that was password protected and then inserted the product code from ecwid within that page.

Then I created a yola page using my own thumbnails and text and linked the photo to the password protected product page.

This allows the customer to view the options but requires them to obtain a password from me before proceeding.

Here is the sample. (Only the 1st pick photo has been linked)
http://woitasacres.com/product.php

Woops. Forgot to mention. The user name is client and the password is sample.
Again - These will be changed in the near future!!

It's not idea in the fact that I have to create the thumbnails, links and additional pages for each product but since we are talking about pups rather than typical inventory... I don't sell enough in a year too see a problem.

Two new issues...

1) This "Product shows up on my "Store" page and I don't want it too.
www.woitasacres.com/shop Can that be blocked from this page??

2) I wish yola had the ability to create different password protect pages rather than using the same for all.

You should be able to exclude the puppy image from your page .
Reselect your categories making sure that the puppy product is not selected

The password is a site level facility as it was designed, not a page by page facility. Many have described their desire for this but I wouldn't think a high priority with all the development happening at this time.

I'm getting so much closer...
To place a deposit on a pup or select a pup it's a one-time thing. How can I ensure it can't be purchased more than once??? I found a feature in ecwid that says to hide out of stock products but 1) I'm not sure I want it hidden but rather sold out and 2) It allows them to enter a higher quantity than 1.

Again, this only applies to the dogs and not to other inventory....

OK.. I have the quantity issue resolved. Now that I think of it I am not concerned about it removing the product when out of stock because I don't use the ecwid systerm to show me those for this purpose! AWESOME!

The bad news is that I will be gone this afternoon for medical appts. I have added the code for the borders. I have changed the colors so we can clearly see what is what for design purposes.

1) Borders are currently shown on products only. If we are able to figure this out I would like to see it on both categories and products.

2) I'm not sure about the measurements you are looking for but I have left the page up with that code for your review. www.woitasacres.com/shop

3) In your code you specify that all products have a top segment and bottom segment border. You can see how those are defined by color in the website. The questions is can we get it to respond differently for different products. In the end result I would prefer this "grid" to look like a tic-tac-toe grid meaning that all outside borders would be absent.

For this configuration I suggest that you consider using the single product facility of ecwid and layout the background design with Yola.

I also just noticed that not all product frames are the same size. We would need to find a way to make them a fixed size to make the design work. ??????

The size of the frame is a function of the image canvas size plus the amount of text. This is adjustable.
