Why is Google Analytics not counting my visitors properly?

I've added a GA code to my index page, it shows on all the other pages in site builder, but when live and checking the source code, it's not there... and having massive under-reporting in Google (I know that as there's a competition to win stuff, thousands of forms completed on site, and only 42 visits!!!)
I need to have an accurate idea of traffic for advertisers. What am I doing wrong?

Hello Sophie

I am not sure why this is happening. I am going to ask our SEO team to respond to you question as they may have a better idea than I would to explain how Google Analytics works.

Perhaps others users who have used Google Analytics and othe forms of tracking services would be able to lend their advice as well.

Thanks for your patience as you wait for a response from our SEO team. They will respond within 24 hours.

You are right, analytics doesnt seem to be working effectively.

I have only just been looking into it and it may be due to the fact that we cannot place the analytics code in the head section.

Try switching your analytics code to the (non default) traditional code.

http://www.google.com/support/googlea...

The traditional code needs to be placed in the body section, preferably right at the bottom. With yola's site builder we are more or less working exclusively with the body section.

So place the traditional code in every page you make at the very bottom, this will ensure the tradional code is as close to the end of the body section as possible.

I have now switched my code to the traditional code. Hopefully it will produce more accurate results. I will report back my results but wait for yola to respond.

You have to add the code to all of the pages for it to work. Also, the site builder puts all the code in other codes and makes it a little confusing to read sometimes. it adds a bunch of divs and spans. (It's not Yola's fault, it is just the way the site builder system does it) Have you searched the source code? It is accurate for me.

Hello there Sophie,

Would you be able to tell me what your domain is that you are adding your code to? I can then take a look at your site and see if you have it pasted correctly.

Many thanks for working with us on this.

Hi Sophie - the code has been added correctly to your site. If there's tracking issues, it's possibly a Google Analytics problem. This link on their site may help you with questions: http://www.google.com/support/analyti....
