why is www not showing in the address bar? I use 123reg and have bought my own domain name, I have set up two A records for @ and www, however, if I type www.(mydomain).co.uk, my site appears but has (mydomain).co.uk in the address bar, ie it is missing the www from the start of the web address.

Hi pscowcroft mine does the same and is also purchased through 123reg.
This is un-avoidable when you link with yola through 123reg

Don't worry your site will still work fine.

Hello pscowcroft,

Your domain should work with both the www and the non www version, can you tell me what your domain name is and I can take a look if you would like.

Thanks,
Emmy

Hi Emmy. Thanks for the info, my domain is www.philscowcroft.co.uk - my domain is working and I can see my site with both www and non-www - however, I think John Mc might have answered it earlier: something to do with the link with 123reg and Yola? If you have a more concise answer to why the non-www website shows in the address bar, please let me know as it's driving me mad! I've no problem viewing the site using both versions. Is there something I need to add in the domain settings for it to appear as www?

Hello,
Yes, this would be something at the registrar level. What I see when I look up your domain settings is that there is a redirect in place so the primary domain is the non www version. This means, that when the www version is used, it will automatically redirect to the non www version. If you would like to put in a support request to 123reg they may be able to help you remove the redirect so that the www is the primary. Hope that helps!

Hi,
Ive quickly searched the 123-reg help documents and i found this.
It explains how to make the www. prefix removed.
It says to copy the www. record into the @ record.
Which yola requires anyway

Hope this helps

Hi John. I looked at that but it just confused me even more! It seems to be there if you want to 'remove' the www. I want to do the opposite and keep the www if possible, It's not essential, just a niggle. Yola just asks you to add their ip address to the @ and www records, which I've done, and nothing more, so don't know what 'copy the fields that you have setup under www into the @ record' actually means! My www and @ record are identical - so there may be more to it. I'll still hold on for 123 reg to get back to me on this one. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry i didn't explain very well.In 123reg to get rid of www. both the @ and www must be the same.Yola requires this anyway, which makes the www. disappear. Hope you understand

So if Yola needs both, it might not be possible to just have one A record in 123reg and therefore keep the www? Yep, I understand, but if there's no way around it, it's ok. At least it answers the question. Let's see what 123 reg support say!

I'll definitely update this thread if they can shed any light on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks my web address looks incomplete. It's just what we're used to I suppose. I feel naked without my www!

Hi Phil,

I'm sorry that I've come to this thread so late and that you've been through the trouble of contacting your registrar. This issue is one that is fixed on our side - any domains that are .com, .net etc (one extension) are automatically published with the "www". Domains that are .co.uk, .com.au etc do not have the "www" as primary. This is a bug on our part but the good news is that we can fix it for you.

Please could you send an email to support@yola.com to my attention so that I can get this fixed for you ASAP.

Hi Marije, I've sent an email to support@yola.com. Thankyou for your attention with this. I've closed it with 123reg as you suggest and look forward to the solution with Yola.
