Why my favicon cannot be seen?

I download a free favicon from www.freefavicon.com, upload to my website and put its name ‘resources/free website make.ico’ at Favourites Icon in Properties on Home Page of my website www.freewebsitemake.synthasite.com

Then I publish my website, but I cannot see the favicon even after I add the Home Page to my Favourites List.

Do anyone know why?

Hi Billy,

Is this your favicon?

Are you using Internet Explorer? Internet Explorer doesn't allow favicons to be displayed next to your URL or on the tab of the window. It will only be displayed in the favourites folder.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I use Internet Expolorer (IE).

I only have IE, so can you tell me how can I check the favicon in another way?

By the way, I can still use IE to see some favicons from other websites e.g. www.synthasite.com, www.freefavicon.com, www.yahoo.com.au...

Any reason why these websites can show favicons in IE but not my website?

You can use Firefox (www.firefox.com) to see the favicon in all three areas. I'll have to come back to you on your last question...

Ho, Ho, Ho Merry Christmas... Here is a cross browser code for favicons. I have used it for some time myself... Oh wait I am not using my Santa alias... Woops my bad...

See for yourself that it works. ;)

http://honeybearplayhomes.synthasite....

***Always try new codes in a newly created page before your actual website page because there are so many codes out there that can harm your page and in some cases cause you to have to delete your work***

I am presently using this code on my site and as you see it is cross browser compatible...

1) Upload your favicon to your file manager

Edit the following code as follows...
1) You just need to substitute "YOURSITEHERE" in the code below with your site name
2) Chage the "favicon" to your favicon name in the code
3) Highlight the code between the <!-- & --> and copy
4) Open a HTML widget on your page in your editor and paste into it the code you have created
5) Update your site

<!--

<!--

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://YOURSITEHERE.synthasite.com/re...>

-->

Here is an easy favicon generator
http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

Ask and ye shall receive...

Happy site building

HO HO HO

Hey Peter the favicon generator built into the site builder only produces code which can be seen by those using Firefox. The code I listed above is cross browser compatible and if you wish your favicon to be seen by those using other browsers then you can easily add it to your site.

I use it and if you look at my site in IE and Opera you can see that it works.

Happy site building

Thanks Ed,

For some reason I thought that had changed with an upgrade or an IE release or something. I hadn't given it another thought until I saw your re-bump yesterday.

I guess it's because IE has become such a second runner with me that even when I use it I don't notice the favicon. }}:o

Hi, Nathaniel,

Good work on your favicon and website! You might try making your file an .ico file instead of a gif. You can use this generator here to do that:
http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/
This should solve your IE problem

Is there any way that we can add a favicon for the whole site? Because I wan't the same favicon for my whole site, but it takes to long to go through all of the pages on my site and add my new .ico favicon. It is the same favicon, just I finnally changed it to .ico so now you can see it in IE! But I only have it on the homepage right now. SO is there anyway to add it to the whole site?

Thanks,
Nathan

I'm glad it worked for you! Unfortunately, there is not an easy way to add the favicon to the whole site. You could use the Save As feature but this only works before you create a page. If your page is already created you will have to add the favicon. Sorry about that!

It's possible. Request it as a feature so they know you are interested.
