Why oh why do I keep breaking my favicon :(

Ok so the quickest way for me to explain my woes is in point form I guess.

* The day before the DOS attack I had read how to do favicons and so off I went...brilliant, it worked and was more happy when I had a friend see my preview page using IE (cos it was mentioned sometimes IE won't show them), so that's ok I had a favicon.

* Next day I decided, nope don't like that one, will make a new one.....that's when I thought that I broke my website.....lol....it was the DOS attack. Ed came along and answered my plea for help and told me to wait untiil all the hassles were over.

* All these days later - I still have no luck in changing my favicon.

* Today (Sunday 22nd Aussie time) I am just putting together a very small site for a young friend of mine who has been doing it tough. Off I went and started a site and make a favicon I thought he would like, ok so that worked, was on messenger at the time and so I asked my friend in Canada if she would check it and tell me if she sees it using IE....yep she could see it but I didn't really like it.

* I went into file manager, deleted that favicon.ico and made another, uploaded BUT when I went to the area where you would put the favicon in, in that box area it had "resources/favicon.ico" in there and I couldn't delete it so I went to the next lil box to the right of that and clicked, it took me to my file manager area and first attempt, the entire thing froze up, every site I had open I had to bail out of by ending the task :(

* Go back in and the damn thing is still showing the old (first original) favicon I put on even though I deleted it from the file manager.

* The area where I would hit 'save' and then I would preview is greyed out, it won't let me hit "SAVE" ?????

* In my frustration and having no patience, I deleted the site and thought maybe this might completely clear any glitches but I have the same problem on my own website/store so need to get this sorted before I start again.

Why can I get 1 favicon to work and show yet if I want to change it, even after deleting the thing from file manager I cannot sucessfully add a different one ???

Thanks for your patience with me and all my questions...

Hi, if you want to delete the favicon, click the icon next to the box with "recources/favicon.ico" and the file manager will pop up. There is a Save button and a None button, click "None" There wont be a favicon then. But, I don't know why it is freezing up. What browser are you using? Also, what version of the browser?

Hi again Nathan....thank god you are a patient person :)

Ok so I found the "none" button .....yayyyyyyy.

Since I deleted the site for Dakoda I went to my own site, went to my home page and there sure enough was my original favicon so I hit the icon then the 'none' button and chose a different favicon I had in my file manager, this time I was able to hit 'save' BUT alas, when I went to preview my page for a split second it showed the original favicon then that disappeared and now has the boring ole "e" symbol.

I am using Internet Explorer 7. I don't really want to change my browser but I guess updating to IE8 is becoming inevitable isn't it :( I've heard more negatives than positves about IE8.

Thanks again.

I like IE8, it has lots of features, but, do you want your favicon to not show up at all? If you preview it again, it probably wont show up, it is just updating through the internet and it probably wont show up again. But, I think what is causing you to have problems in Yola is that your browser version is older than the version right now. Maybe if you try updating to IE8 and see if it works? That might make it better. It might not freeze up or anything, but, its 100% up to you! :)

Ok so when you get back here this is what i've done and what has happened.....

* Download IE8 sucessfully, will have to read all the destructions for that another time.

* Quickly raced off to see if it made a difference with my favicons, still could only see my original (which was originally a .jpeg), the generator says use jpg, bmp or png but regardless, the other 2 I had that refused to work they were also jpegs so I was a big confuzzled.

* Went to file manager and got rid of everything I didn't need and only kept the original, re-did the other 2 but this time saved them as .png then took them to generator, uploaded to file manager, aaaaaaaaaaaaaand hey presto :) yup the worked but they look awful (all that to see they look awful and the original is the best....lol).

* Fix one problem and break something else :( On my home page I have a MP3 player that was set to start as soon as the page was opened, it was perfect, I have a very animated banner and it was just soooooo awesome and in sync but now what is happening is I open my site/page and my animation starts but my music is not starting for approx 20 secs :( doesn't seem like much but it's all outta sync now. I deleted the MP3 widget and re-did it in hope to fixing it, saved and previewed.......nope.....still not starting immediately upon opening....

Bye for now, I seem to break just about everything.
