why won't my godaddy domain connect to my synthasite page? i've done the tutorial, doesnt work for me!

i registered a domain at godaddy (ericakim.net). I've created a synthasite account, and thought i published the site to ericakim.net. I've changed the A host in godaddy to 208.75.208.172 (~2 days ago), but ericakim.net goes to godaddy free parking (it is not pointing to synthasite?). Also, when I use webmaster-web utilities/dig utility, it says the a host is still 68.178.232.100. So, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, as I followed synthasite's tutorial for godaddy (just changing a name). Am I missing something?

Hi Erica I know how hard it is to wait for something like this

So just to verify... You had tried the following two days ago?

To set up your A Record to point to SynthaSite:
1. Go to the GoDaddy website
2. Under 'Domains' on the menu choose 'My Domains'. This will take you to your GoDaddy domain manager.
# NOTE: at this stage you may be required to login
3. From the 'Domain Manager' interface, click on the domain you want to edit
4. Now click: Click on 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
5.Now you need to edit your A record. Click on the icon in the section: A("host")
6. In the box where it says "Points To Ip Address:" put the SynthaSite IP: 208.75.208.172 and click OK
Your domain should now point to SynthaSite. You can test if this has worked by typing your domain into your browser. If all has worked correctly you should end up at the SynthaSite homepage. Don't be too worried if this is not the case, bear in mind that DNS changes, like you have just made, can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet.

If after 48 hours your domain is still not working as you would like, see the section on domain diagnosis and troubleshooting.

From Godaddys website...

You can forward your parked domain to an existing Web site. When visitors go to the domain you forwarded, their Web browser automatically forwards them to the URL you specified.

For example, you own onecoolexample.com and want people who visit it to be redirected to coolexample.net.

NOTE: You can only forward parked domains using this procedure, which we automatically park when you register them with us. If your domain isn't parked, you must update your A record through Total DNS. For more information about parking domains, see Setting Nameservers for Your Domain. For more information about updating A records, see Creating A Records.

If you followed the steps provided and as it is the weekend I would give it until tomorrow before you start the process over. I have seen it go beyond 48 hours before so still have faith.

Sorry I don't have a quick fix answer for you...

Hi Ed,

Thanks for replying! So, I followed all of Synthasite's directions before, more than 2 days ago. Maybe I should just wait more, since it could potentially be over 48 hours like you said. But, in terms of GoDaddy's directions of "setting nameservers for your domains," I'm a bit confused. I just left them at GoDaddy's default nameservers (NS55.Domaincontrol.com and NS56.domaincontrol.com). Since I'm trying to host my domain with Synthasite (and not GoDaddy), am I supposed to change the nameservers, and if so, to what? I couldn't find this information on Synthasite's FAQ or anything, and it seems as if the only thing I'm supposed to change is the IP address.. which isn't working for me, yet.. And, like I wrote before, when i use the webmasters/web utilties/dig utility (http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/dig....) to check what IP my site is at (not sure if im' using the proper terminology here), it says 68.178.232.100..

Hi Erica,

It appears that your IP address has not been pointed correctly. Would you mind working through the steps that ed outlined again, please?

hi Ruth,

i talked to godaddy, and they're not sure what the problem is. They told me to reset the IP again (even though, on my domain management page, the IP is already set to synthasite's), and told me that if it still didn't work, to call them again so that they could manually change it/push it through themselves. For some reason, my domain's stuck at the old IP address, even though I've changed it and it looks like it's been changed (on my domain management page). It sounds like a problem on their side, but hopefully it'll get fixed soon!

Hello Erica i know your Concerned but there might be a Soltion
1st.Go to www.tinyurl.com
2nd.Enter your Sites Address e.g www.example.synthasite.com
make it tiny and get a URL Like www.tinyurl.com/j4jh6
Something like that
Then go back to GoDaddy.com Find URL Redirection (MASKED)
Then enter the URL You want to have like www.ericakim.org
and enter the Target/Location as www.tinyurl.com/YOUR URL!
and The tiny URL Shoud be active for about 1 yr
and then renew it
BTW Tiny URL Is Absoulutely Free!

Or....
Go to
www.dot.tk/
And Get a Free URL Redirection there.

If this Doesn't Help and if your hostng your websites IP Through Your PC
Try These Commands and Retry GoDaddy
1st.Go to Start then click "RUN"
and type in "CMD" Without Quotes
and type in The Command Prompt this
IPCONFIG/RELEASE
Then
IPCONFIG/RENEW
OR
FLUSHDNS

And If GoDaddy isn't working use
http://domains.yahoo.com/
Select BASIC Domain for 11.95 a YR

If Any Of This Doesn't Work Then I have no idea

Good Luck Erica!

Hi erica,

I pasted your URL into my browser window and was taken here:

Is this your site, or should I be seeing something different? It appears that your domain name has been successfully pointed to SynthaSite.

oh,yes that's it. Not a lot on it, haha, just wanted to get the domain pointed to the right place before i start working on it. Yeah, I had to talk to GoDaddy again, and they manually "pushed" it through. It was definitely some kind of problem on their side, but it's fixed now. Thanks for all y'alls help too!

snapshots585,

Can you email this to us suppport@synthasite.com? I'm going to delete this post from you, as it does have more information than you probably want to share here.

I'll keep an eye out for your email, and we can investigate more what is going on.
