worries about domain name

I have a site that still has the synthasite tag
www.iwonder2.synthasite.com
i have some forums embedded there that are attached to that URL.
I understand that if i change to the yolasite tag, all external links will redirect to the new address.
What happens if i buy a domain name from yola like www.iwonder2.com
will external links be directed to that from the original or will the new address just be separate, plus will i have to change my meta tags and will it affect my google indexing.

Hello David

This appears to be a bit complicated! I don't want to err on giving you the wrong information. I am going to ask a colleague who is much more versed in this area than me to respond to you. She's is currently offline right now but when she returns, I'm sure she'll be more than happy to assist.

I apologize for the delay in the meantime.

Hi David,

Great question, thanks for posting!

When you change your domain to a .yolasite.com address or purchase a domain on Yola, any traffic coming to the .synthasite.com address will be automatically redirected to the new address. These two links will give you more info:
- Changing your address from .synthasite.com to .yolasite.com: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/...
- Buying a domain if you have already published to a subdomain: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/...

If you originally verified your site as a subdomain with Google Webmaster and submitted a sitemap, but have now upgraded to a custom domain or .yolasite.com address, you will need to re-verify your site with Google Webmaster and submit another sitemap. This will allow Google Webmaster to begin returning statistics on your new custom site.

What you need to do is remove the original Google Webmaster meta tag that you put into your home page and go back through the Google Webmaster tutorial for the new custom domain you have now published to. Here is a link to the tutorial: Google Webmaster Tutorial: http://www.yola.com/tutorials/google-....

Please let us know if you need any other assistance.
