hello - your site looks good,
All the photos are the same size, they should be in a straight line (4's) - i dont know how you made the site (maybe 3 2-column box's?.. 1 and 2 inside it?) but i would reccommend each set of 2 items be in seperate column box and the picture be at the top - this will give you a better 'inline' look.

I have tried to add an example of what i mean below.

good luck

Hello Savannah,

Your catalogues are very nice. Nicely organised with easy to read descriptions. Your style selection and overall layout is professional and you have claimed a business confidence with your style.

I would work on aligning the objects, Maybe add some blank lines of text under the descriptions for those items that fall short (easy if you have used two column widgets with text boxes added?). It would be nice to see the "add to cart" buttons aligned.

Your introduction sentiments are personable and welcoming. I wonder though if a forum is a bit too strong as the welcome. I think it's great to have it apparent but maybe intimidating or pushy for some. I think you have a sense of style that would enable you to add a more indirect and atmospheric intro.

Please understand that this is only an opinion and others will differ and probably be more helpful.

It really is developing into a great site.

Sh*t! Sorry lee.

Was that the "anchor' code? This is important as it's in a tutorial. It may need reviewing.

That's terrible Lee. You really don't need something like that happening. Deepest apologies.
I will have a look at this and see if I can find the exception and maybe make a recommendation for the tutorial.
I really should have mentioned that it's imperative to trial the code on a play page or a dummy site. Once again, my mistake and your disruption.

Hi Savannah

I hopped on over to your site. I do agree with the above comments regarding your catalogs. While the pictures and descriptions are easy to see and are pleasing to the eye, the page would look even better if the pictures are all the same size and aligned. The font used for the description may be slightly hard to read for those who wear glasses.

I also agree with Peter's comment about the forum. It does seem a bit strong using it as an introduction page. Perhaps if you want a forum, I would simply add another page but put it as the last page on your site.

I would suggest using your homepage as a way of explaining what your site is about. I would also suggest adding some graphics to help make the page more attractive and welcoming.

You have done a wonderful job at getting this site started. I just think it needs some tweaking and it'll be simply fabulous! Good luck with your endeavor.

Thank you all for your opinions! I appreciate each one of them, The forum was kind of an experimental type thing. I am just unsure of what to put on the home page. Im not very good with introductions and things of this nature. On the pictures they are all 150 x 150 images, and i have tried to align them, i just cant seem to get it right. I am going to try the spaces in them and also i will change the font and make it larger. Also, where do i get graphics from?

Savannah,

I think the introduction should come from your heart. Your selection of items demonstrates a style. Why don't you write about what you like about your products and why you selected them? That would add to the personal aspect and "give" something to your potential clients. I think the midnight alley style is perfect to showcase your items as it really accentuates the "happiness" of the objects.

I'd drop the use of italics and I would try to see what the text looks like if you don't wrap it around the images. Just leave it below the image.

All finished by tomorrow........... :) !!

Depending on what kind of template you are using, this person has created some lovely banners that you may be able to use on your site: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...

Here's some clipart you may be able to use as per Ed's suggestion:

http://www.wpclipart.com/browse.html

http://www.jupitergreetings.com/index...

You don't have to use graphics.. even just changing the background might help grab the consumer's attention.

What is your store about? What is each page about?

I'm not a commerce type of person.. but it may be helpful for you to look at other people's sites that are similar to yours to get some ideas of how to better promote your site.

Peter,
I actually want the description to be under the product, but im using the catalog option because of how many product are in my current catalogs. (3000+ if i were to use them all.) and i cant seem to get it to go under the image. i am unsure if it is the same if you add a single product at a time though. I haven't tried it.

Hi savannah,

I see. I haven't ever built a shopping site so haven't come up against this issue. I wonder if others who have can make any suggestions?

Good luck

Okay, So far, I have Fixed the font (italics, size,) and i have it so it doesn't wrap around my images. Bare with me though only the first "Big Values" page is complete. I have aligned them as much as it will let me, and for some reason the third product in the first row, the font wont change (get any Bigger). I also Deleted the forum (for now) but i haven't done anything else to the home page yet. Let me know what your thoughts are on the updated Big values page please...

That's great Savannah,

With the descriptions in the darker blue have you cut and pasted these or typed them yourself?

No. Not too much.

I think there's some residual code in the boxes that's resizing your text. Somehow we have to remove it.

(i) Standardising your text:

here's what I suggest:
Cut your text out from the first box and paste it into Notepad. Then copy from Notepad back into the box. Resize and colour it to your preferences and it should be fine. repeat this for all the text in each box. It's important to cut all the text and code from each box.

(ii) Aligning your products:

Add six more double column widgets with another double column embedded. Ie rows of four columns as Lee has demonstrated at the top of this post.
Then you will have six new levels of four columns at the bottom of your page. OK?

Now take the last row of product from the BOTTOM and paste it it into the last level of the new layer of widgets. Repeat this from the remaining bottom level of original product images into the next bottom layer of the added widgets.

What this does is automatically align each row of images without having to muck around with empty spaces and incorrect font sizes.

The reason you start from the bottom is that you will have an immediately obvious reference point and it won't cause confusion as it's a very repetitious procedure.

When you've finished this it should have automatically realigned the rows.

Go.... you've got two minutes....... :)

Peters reply says it all but to clarify again - think of the wider structure that will keep everything in line.

1. add a 2 column box to the page
2. add a 2 column box in 1 half of that box
3. add a 2 column box in the other half.

this is only good for 4 products (1 line) - TOTALLY REPEAT THE 3 STEPS for the next 4 products.

This will force each row to start at the same point no matter where the box above it finishes.

P.S i have never used a product widget, the above is based around adding other widgets (i have presumed that the product widget adds the pic, title, text and buy now box.)

Good luck

Lee, this is what i did with my current site. However, the Online catalog option will only let you add products in a Line (column) not in a row. so i would have to add a catalog in every box to get my products the way you and peter are Wanting me to do. which would also add the add to cart button, and 2 view my cart buttons in every box. which is way too many buttons. it makes it look terrible. There is also an option to add a single item but the button that comes with that option only allows the customer to buy that one product. it doesn't give an option to continue shopping, and it doesn't give an option to add the item to cart. Either way it just wont work, I wish i could do it the way you explained it would make everything so much easier.

that shot is ok - what is next on the page - show a shot which includes the next part of the screen - you need to have this exact set up including the outer 2 column for the next 4 items.
Notice the new outer column in the pic below

I'm a bit confused on your lower picture.
Where are the single items? I can only see black areas.

Sorry Savannah but I'm working to get my head around the online stuff. I'm sure Lee and I are willing to help but it means we learn it as we go.

The top image looks fine. can you simply repet that with a new widget andline ie two column widget in a two column widget, add some more products and thenrepeat for each row/ Or am I missing something fundamental here?

Oh sorry. Now I understand. OK the image in the third column is the single item.

I don't really see the first column as having too much. Just an impression. If it's easier to do then I would go with that and see what it looks like after completing a couple of rows.

the thing is, if i add all of the rows and columns, i will have to put a papal widget in each box, which puts 3 papal buttons in each box, plus the picture of the product, details, price and title. I did it and it is way to crowded. there is just too much in that one little box.

OK,

If you put in rows of products can you add extra text space hitting the space bar multiple times to fill the boxes and get them all to the same size?
