Yahoo Indexing problem(s)...help please..

Yahoo indexing....I need HELP here as I have no idea what they are talking about.!! I've tried the Yola tutorials but I'm still at a loss....

i have registered my site/url and this is showing in the yahoo site explorer. However, it asks, quite rightly, for the site to be verified as follows:

Copy the META tag listed below and paste it in your site's home page:

The META tag must be within and near the beginning of the first section of the page, and before the first section.

Will some kind and tolerant soul please explain to me where and what is " within and near the beginning of the first section of the page, and before the first section" ? I have absolutey no idea!

And...do I paste this into a text widget or what and where? Do I remove it after verification?

Apologies if the questions seem a little duh!! Google is so user friendly in comparison!!

I really appreciate your help on this one...as always :-)).

regards

Mark

Hello,

It is not possible to add meta tags to the Head section of your page (aside from the meta values you can add from the Properties Tab), but what you can do is add this meta tag from Yahoo to your page outside of the Head section; the Yahoo spider may pick it up there.

What you can do is drag an html widget (located on the Content Sidebar, little blue circle) onto your page as far up on the page as possible and paste the string of code in there.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

Emmy...I could never get that to work for me...I got it to work in properties on my index page by putting their meta tag at the very end of my page description....maybe I will try your way again.

Hey John,
Yes, I am not sure if that would work actually, I have never tried it. Did you see Lee's idea below of putting the code string in the Google Webmaster field. It sounds promising!

Your way does work with MSN Live......I made a tutorial on this and our good friend Peter checked it out...He gets stuck because he does not see where it says Webmasters on the Live Search home page and can't continue....I can post the link to my tutorial if you want to take a look.

If I have missed any steps let me know....One thing I have found when I make a tutorial where I have an account and go through the steps as if I was doing this for the first time....That even when I sign out it still recognizes my computer so it is easy to miss a step.....http://kanthaidecor.com/live-verify-t...

I think you can add this to the Google webmasters Code spot. It allows the site to be verified. Then you can remove it after confirmation.

I can't remember who did this but someone posted something a while back. I haven't tried this.

Hey Peter, that's a really good idea! I am going to give this some testing over the next few days and see how it goes. Thanks!

you can i did it for my site - just add it - then later once Yahoo have verified it go back and put back your google code - Yahoo only check for verification once where as google check every so often.

Lee.

It's possible that this trick would work for any verification requirement I guess, if the requirement was for a specific code to be added into the head section of the file.

Thinking beyond: It may well be a portal into the head section of the site where you need to paste meta-data??
