I started a site in January http://www.homesafetyplus.com and got on the first page of Yahoo for the keyword "home safety" then I moved the site to Yola in August and completely changed everything (it was ecommerce before and now it's affiliate, content very different) and the site dropped off the face of Yahoo to oblivion. I haven't even finished the site as I have been too busy making other sites. Now I checked and I am now back up to page 3 on Yahoo for "home safety", page 1 for "home safety news" and page 2 for "home safety products"! I have not made any actual money yet.

Unfortunately, I am somewhere in the unknown boonies on Google. So the question is: does Yahoo really matter or is it just Google? Is it worth spending more time and effort on this site and see if it will get anywhere on Google and how much time should I give it? What does anyone think?

Hi Diane,
Congrats on the Yahoo keywords searches... I am sure if you began working on the site again and adding more content that would increase.

Yahoo definitely still has a good percentage of Internet searchers so it is important to be there as well as Google. I cannot say exactly how much time you should give the site if you want to start showing up in Google. But if you have put a lot into the site and would like to continue with it then implementing some on-page SEO (title tags etc) and starting to link build would be a good thing.

I'm thinking you have probably seen these resources, but just in case :)

Good luck!

I would keep it....I do think the window title needs a little tweaking that would help you show up in more search terms....I also think a category that is growing in leaps and bounds is products for seniors....Things like shower chairs etc. That would fit in with your site...or maybe it is there and I missed it.....Also I would add your link to my site if you like...I think home safety would fit with my home improvement/ home services links page just fine.....Also have you submitted your blog to blogged.com ?

Thanks for the advice. The seniors idea is a really good one. And a link would be great! Thanks. I think I will try to get things a little organized over the holidays and start working on this again. Seeing those search results was encouraging. I submitted my blog somewhere but I'm not sure about blogged.com.
