Yola Huge Link and Huge flyout in footer - looks terrible...

Sorry, I posted this prior to seeing the posting previously. But really feel I need to say how I think on this subject, and am sure that many many many feel the same. Prior to certain date we had a small Yola Link. And am totally bamboozled by Yola team thinking to change and enlarge. I was sure Yola was on the way to being the best on the web for hosting/design of pages, but.... this is certainly not the way to go, and in fact possibly going backwards to the days (I do remember those days!) when everything was large! Anyway, here are my thoughts, probably to add to everyone elses!

The new Yola link at bottom , ie footer,..... Oh dear, Yola designers - what are you doing to people? This is not really a complaint, but a comment from me. I just looked at someones free site, went to bottom of page and hovered over the now big Yola wording at the footer, and a HUGE flyout popped up about free website design. Feel the size of this has totally, totally spoiled that person's website.

Why has Yola changed from the smaller Yola text? Yes, I understand this is probably a way for Yola to get people to change over to Silver, as anyone in their right mind would not want what is there now, on their site. But I honestly feel this is totally unfair to all those people who are continuing to use the free Yola option as they are going to look ridiculous with it as it looks now. I now lthat Yola needs to advertise itself, but this is detrimental to those free sites.
The free sites were advertising Yola in the footer anyway. So... why should the website now have a huge Yola at the bottom??? especially also with a HUGE flyout when you hover over it?? Why not continue with the old style, smaller text? Surely, this could be turned around ... and the site owner then charge Yola for actually advertising on their site, as the large Yola link at bottom really is an advertisement, not as it was before notifying people of Yola. this is bad enough, but when you see that 'flyout', oh dear, oh dear.

Am not sure how long the large link and flyout have been there, as I said, have just seen it, but I wondered if anyone else had seen these on the bottom of the free sites/ or had any comments on this? As feel this is not a professional look for the websites concerned, the old smaller text was fine.

May I say, I am a Yola bronze customer, but I bought a domain, and the fly out doesn't seem to be happening to me. Maybe if you buy something for Yola, it goes. Extortion much...

Hello Will, Jeremy has replied below. So, you probably bought prior to change? Just saw it on a free site, as had not seen it before, and possibly lots of people who have had their site prior have not seen. Do believe you will be surprised...

Hello JC,

We have increased the size of the Yola Link for new users.

People who signed up for our free package since mid-June 2010 have a much larger Yola Link at the bottom of their site. The larger Yola Link makes it easier for a website visitor to know and recognize a site as a Yola built site, and also allows the visitor easier access to Yola.com so they may get a site of their own.

If you don't like the link, you do have the option to remove it by purchasing Yola Silver in which you get a lot more than just the Yola link removed. We believe that Yola Silver is very good value for money and that the price you pay gets you far more value than the $99.95. You can find out more pricing info here: http://www.yola.com/pricing

I hope this helps.

Jeremy, thanks - yes I do realise the change for the newer users, however, many people world-wide still use an 800x600 resolution (yes, I know this is fading out, but having travelled a lot, see an enormous amount still around), or have their monitors at a lower res so that what appears is larger. I run a 1440x900 and it is huge on mine. So can imagine how large these look on theirs?? All I am saying is that to have it that big?? and also the flyout?? why can't perhaps the flyout be at least made smaller? I understand what you are saying regarding the Silver and that you wish people now to change over, and defin as a great option now being given to all. Yola is international also and for many countries compared to USA rate of exchange is shocking (mine works out to over $130!) I do understand that special offers will be introduced later on as incentives, however believe some may find it a 'tad' hard in economic climate today to swap to Silver. I defin see advantage of Silver and think what is now offered is amazing, but Yola does say free web hosting site, although with the Yola huge advertising on each site, does that 'free' really now apply?
Just thoughts from me, as Silver is the way to go for all. At least - perhaps if the flyout was smaller????

I think the point that was overlooked in this post is the very unprofessional look of the design - the size wouldn't matter so much if it didn't look as if it was designed by a child. Could some thought be given to making a more professional presentation?

Hello rose marie,

We do appreciate the feedback. Yola Silver is an option for those who want to have a professional look as this completely removes the Yola Link for all sites in the account, along with many other awesome features! For more information, please see Yola Silver.

We may consider revamping our packages later on as we continue to receive feedback from our users.

great, appreciate your response. The current logo is probably okay for personal users, but a more professional rendering would be really helpful in convincing small businesses and organizations to get on board with Yola, and perhaps upgrade at some point!
